00;00;09;20 - 00;00;19;02
Gabe
Hi. Welcome back. We're going to be talking about the CW, Nancy Drew, season one. The is there's just so much there's literally just.

00;00;19;05 - 00;00;47;00
Lauren
Every single episode is chock full of, you know, little references to other Nancy Drew stories. It's full of, you know, secrets that you learn about each different person and what's going on with them and what their life is like and what their family has. And every single minute of every single of the 18 episodes is used for a very specific purpose.

00;00;48;26 - 00;00;52;04
Gabe
Yeah. Yes.

00;00;52;29 - 00;00;54;04
Lauren
K characters.

00;00;55;03 - 00;01;21;07
Gabe
So I think we do it. We go into the characters and we obviously start with Nancy because she is the prominent obviously she's the teenage detective in this. She started solving mysteries when she was 12 and she had saved a local girl. Obviously, we talk about her mom did die from pancreatic cancer and she died the day that Nancy was crowned sequin.

00;01;21;19 - 00;01;50;08
Gabe
And kind of due to the death and the grieving, that kind of delayed her plans to go to college. Like it really affected Nancy. And she swore off the crime solving. It definitely caused a lot of strain on her, her relationship with her dad and and kind of where we come in, we find out, like at the beginning of this summer, she kind of started a no strings attached relationship with Ned.

00;01;50;08 - 00;02;12;15
Gabe
Nick. And then obviously she was at the club because everyone works there. So that's kind of like, I think the big things of who she is in the show. She definitely, like you're saying, is a mess, but I like that. I think that's more believable. It's more relatable.

00;02;12;16 - 00;02;13;12
Lauren
She's a disaster.

00;02;13;13 - 00;02;42;18
Gabe
The only other thing I felt really strongly was like like, yes, Nancy's mom passed away in the books, but she was really, really young in the books. Right. So, like, it's gonna affect you, but it's like trauma in a whole different way. And I also feel like in the books, we never really see the actual effects, like the lasting effects of losing a parent like that or losing a parent when you're really young and there's never any like resolution or dealing with that.

00;02;42;18 - 00;03;10;05
Gabe
And so something I really liked about this and this rendition of Nancy was you see it, you see the kind of immediate effects, but then also the long lasting ones. And she is having to work through it and kind of like how death and grief affects you and affects everything on your life and your relationships. So that was probably one of my favorite things about Nancy.

00;03;10;05 - 00;03;17;23
Gabe
And I feel like it's nice to normalize that. Grief happens. It affects us all differently. You work through it.

00;03;18;17 - 00;03;46;26
Lauren
Yeah, Nancy, I think it's really, really interesting how she comes into the story, because usually with like Nancy Drew gains or other movies or mystery or books or gains or whatever, she's always just like, Oh, yep, it's another mystery time. But this one, because she's had her hiatus and because she had the trauma and because she had just kind of sworn off it.

00;03;47;13 - 00;04;18;14
Lauren
It's a really interesting dynamic to kind of watch her get into it and kind of have a passion for life again. I think we get to see her kind of start brightening and start being able to work through things. Also, during the during the season, we learn that that very first case she saw when she was 12, there was a demon that was part of that who ended up affecting her mind because he affects the minds of children.

00;04;18;27 - 00;04;48;06
Lauren
And so she just like had residual trauma from that that she didn't even realize she had had that was seriously affecting her, um, from when she was 12. And so just kind of, she was, she really felt like she was a normal kind of teenage girl who was running around solving crimes. Happy go lucky popular. Not really worried about things other than her mom being sick.

00;04;48;06 - 00;05;24;22
Lauren
And then when her mom's cancer finally, finally came to its conclusion, then Nancy just starts discovering that the world around her isn't a wonderful place like every single thing that she discovers is just so much for her to bear. And so it's just you can see that kind of stacking of grief as every little thing that she had wanted or thought about or thought she knew was all coming crashing down.

00;05;26;05 - 00;05;32;07
Lauren
So we get to kind of experience that with her. There were definitely a lot of frustrations I had where she would just.

00;05;32;21 - 00;05;32;28
Gabe
Wait.

00;05;33;14 - 00;05;33;26
Lauren
Handle.

00;05;34;03 - 00;05;50;28
Gabe
For a year into those because we were too. I feel like we're talking about the good things. I also think how they approached it seemed a lot more organic and viable that she would get into a mystery and think, I want to solve this because I would too. But in this situation I'd be like, What the heck is going on?

00;05;50;29 - 00;06;10;27
Gabe
Like, I want to figure it out too. And so I also really appreciate that because sometimes you're like, How would you even get in this mystery? Why would you even be doing this? And so I felt this like it was more true to life, which I really appreciate.

00;06;10;28 - 00;07;00;08
Lauren
I was laughing to myself because I really feel the the showrunners for this show have very similar mindsets to the showrunners of Euphoria, where they want their characters to make the worst possible decision and then see what happens. Not for the character. Just Nancy. Just Nancy. Always reacting in the most either dramatic or taking things the worst way possible, or she's always just going at things without thinking about any other sides of any issues and just is fully like, Oh, you did this thing, you're dead to me and it's.

00;07;01;09 - 00;07;29;12
Gabe
I think that's the trauma, though. Like, I think it's because of all of the trauma. And clearly we already saw one episode where she had unresolved residual trauma for something we didn't even like. We're like, Why? Like, what more does she have? And I felt like I related to that a lot, and I really liked her. And I think that was also I was I'm very protective of this, Nancy.

00;07;29;12 - 00;07;48;26
Gabe
I'm so defensive. I hated how all of her friends always seemed to, like, turn on her and, like, get so upset. But I know you're not going to feel this, but I feel this because I've I've been Nancy, I've felt that we're like you're just not quite processing thing, right? And you're just trying to do the right thing.

00;07;48;27 - 00;08;10;10
Gabe
And I feel like, like Ned was always, like, attacking her and so suspicious of her. I'm like, Nancy, you've clearly turned away from us and like, she hasn't. Anyways, I'll. I'll wait till we go through more people right before you say anything, let me at least defend myself. Star Thanks. I feel like you're going to come out and you're just totally fine.

00;08;11;21 - 00;08;39;26
Gabe
I'm not going to say Nancy is not sometimes super aggressive, super abrasive, super blunt, and is a little she's a little too narrow minded. So I'm not narrow minded. She's a little too focused. I will agree. She gets very like hard focus and just like can't always see past some of it. But I feel like her intentions are always for the right thing and to try and do the right thing.

00;08;41;06 - 00;08;57;15
Gabe
And I feel like a lot of her friends just totally don't even like they just ignore it and they just get angry. It's just so much teenage angst for me. I just like I get so annoyed and I'm like with Nancy alone, I'm just trying to show her the world over here. Do you think it's easy? It's not.

00;08;57;15 - 00;08;57;28
Speaker 3
Easy.

00;08;59;06 - 00;09;38;08
Lauren
I what I'm saying of how many thoughts right now. Yes. So for starters, I think every actor in the cast is doing a phenomenal job. Oh, yeah. Everyone is absolutely doing the best with the characters that they're given. And everyone is genuine and believable and warm and it's so much fun to watch. So I'll start with that. Yeah.

00;09;38;08 - 00;10;09;04
Lauren
So I have. Yes. So everyone in the cast is doing an amazing job, Nancy. Yes. I understand that she wants to solve this mystery. And this is the only thing kind of like keeping her alive and thriving. So, like, I absolutely understand that, like, this is her only priority because she is clinging to this mystery. She is also being haunted.

00;10;10;10 - 00;10;30;06
Lauren
Yeah. So so I understand that she's got both of these strong pieces where she's just like, yep, it's a mystery. Can I go solve it? And everyone else is like, it was ruled an accident. We are trying to live our own lives.

00;10;31;08 - 00;10;31;15
Speaker 3
Mm.

00;10;31;23 - 00;10;54;04
Lauren
Why are you pushing this? And it's easy to see their perspective as well, because Jordan is trying to be like, okay, well, I'm trying to keep my family afloat by keeping the restaurant going and staying out of jail. And there it's like, I'm just here so I can find out that I'm a marvin. That's all that I want to do.

00;10;54;21 - 00;11;28;23
Lauren
Why is Nancy pushing this? And then pushing us away when we're trying to help her, but also requiring us to be involved at other points where we don't necessarily need to be? I thought that was a really interesting part of Nancy's character, where half the time she'd be like, No, I have to do this by myself. And then the group is like, Well, the ritual literally needs six people to do this, so you physically can't.

00;11;28;24 - 00;11;56;19
Lauren
Nancy So we will be involved. And then other points where she's like, I think we all need to go off and do this thing together. And they're like, We're trying to live our actual lives. I'm glad that your dad is a wealthy lawyer and you don't have to worry about like day to day living things. But like, we need to be able to focus on this.

00;11;57;26 - 00;12;22;23
Gabe
My response to that would be is a lot of it, especially the initial where she's like, I'm alone. I think that is more of like that's how she's solved puzzles or mysteries. Originally was alone, but also because like you were saying, they were like, We've got other stuff to do. Why are you focusing on it? And I think that's why she would push them away because they weren't necessarily committing like they wanted to do it.

00;12;22;23 - 00;12;31;25
Gabe
But then they're also like they don't want to do it. So I can understand her being like, I can't deal with all of this. I'm just going to pursue it. And I'm saying that's the right thing, but I can see why she would do that.

00;12;31;25 - 00;12;50;15
Lauren
But even in the pilot where she takes the necklace to George and she's like, you know what this is? And George and us help her figure out how to open Tiffany's locket. And then Nancy is just like, okay, well, I'm off by guys. And they're like, well, we want to come to like, we're we're helping you with this.

00;12;50;15 - 00;13;07;19
Lauren
And she was like, Right, no, I work alone. And that part. And then later, whenever they were trying to be like, okay, well, we actually have jobs and stuff. And she's just like, no, no, I need people with me. So I'm just sending out so many mixed messages.

00;13;08;22 - 00;13;27;23
Gabe
But they are too, though, because they'll say they want to be involved, but then they're like, We don't want to be involved in the doll her. And they'll be like this and this and this. So I get why she's doing the mixed signals. I don't think she needs to, but I hear why she don't like why she has the push and pull because they're also pushing and pulling back.

00;13;27;23 - 00;13;42;14
Gabe
And I think she's afraid to rely on people because of her mom. And so she's like, well, do I rely on you guys? Like, what am I supposed to do? Like, I feel like it's a mutual thing because they're also like, we want to be involved with it, but we also have to do all these other things.

00;13;43;07 - 00;14;05;23
Lauren
They can't focus 100% of their time and energy on it. And she is such an all or nothing person that any time anyone pulls back in the slightest or in any way shows her that they're not in 100%, she's just like, Okay, then I have no time for you.

00;14;06;29 - 00;14;28;04
Gabe
Which I think neck, neck kind of furthered that though too, because like, I feel like she had started to finally be ready to be all in on their relationship and like she was trying really hard for him because he kept wanting more. And then suddenly he was like, Yeah, I got to go. And she was like, Okay, I'm going to suck it.

00;14;28;04 - 00;14;31;24
Gabe
I'm like, She was starting ready to bloom, and it's just like now.

00;14;32;10 - 00;14;59;20
Lauren
Because she didn't tell him that. She didn't show him that she was ready. She had he had been trying for so long and she had been pushing away for so long. And then as like one conversation with her dad. And then it's just like, you know what, I'm going to change. But they don't have a chance to really have that conversation necessarily.

00;14;59;20 - 00;15;18;12
Lauren
And also, he had probably been trying for a long time to try to be like, Hi, can we do this? And she had not been down for it for so long that he finally was like, okay, you know, why is not working?

00;15;19;11 - 00;15;31;24
Gabe
I don't think it was that long because they started to like at the began the summers when they started dating and they originally like it wasn't dating like they're just having a thing.

00;15;32;05 - 00;15;32;18
Speaker 3
Mm hmm.

00;15;32;25 - 00;15;58;19
Gabe
And he didn't seem to actually be starting to go for something more serious until he started the season. Because in episode one, you see them, he, like, starts to finally try and have that kind of conversation, but also I feel like there's trying and then there's demanding things to be done on your timetable. And that was my frustration with Nick was when he wanted Nancy to.

00;15;58;20 - 00;16;20;11
Gabe
It was literally everything had to be his timetable when he thought it needed to be done. And that's what shut her up more. There was more like, okay, I want to talk about this. When do you think you should talk about when do you think you can be ready to talk about it? It was well, I'm pissed you have to talk about it right now or I'm just.

00;16;21;15 - 00;16;22;22
Gabe
It's nothing.

00;16;23;13 - 00;16;53;07
Lauren
I think he might have felt that if he didn't push her, she was never going to do it. So I. I fully just don't think that they were compatible and that he clearly wanted a relationship and wanted somebody who could spend a fair amount of time with him. And there's nothing wrong with that. And Nancy wasn't at that point yet.

00;16;53;10 - 00;17;01;05
Lauren
And so I think it was just bad timing for them. And I agree. Nobody's fault.

00;17;01;09 - 00;17;26;08
Gabe
Really? Absolutely. Yeah, I was just upset how he handled things. And like I said, I feel like he was hypocritical in the ways that he would treat Nancy and then how he treated George and how he would work things out with George versus like, I don't feel like he ever gave Nancy that patience.

00;17;26;08 - 00;17;32;11
Lauren
Well, I think we saw George. We saw it much faster with George.

00;17;33;13 - 00;17;57;26
Gabe
Yes. And I think it also wouldn't bother me as much if he didn't keep like like when he gets mad at Nancy or like when things happen, when he is frustrated, while they're sobbing and doing stuff, he'll do like low blows. He will say things that go back to their relation ship and just like, I don't know, I think that's why I kept getting frustrated.

00;17;58;10 - 00;18;01;06
Gabe
I just get really frustrated with him and how he treats her.

00;18;01;28 - 00;18;15;29
Lauren
Well, that's so funny because I really didn't. That's the opposite direction that I was getting. I mean, I again, I just don't think they were compatible, but I.

00;18;16;07 - 00;18;18;19
Gabe
Know I don't want them back together.

00;18;19;12 - 00;18;20;01
Lauren
Yeah, it's.

00;18;20;01 - 00;18;20;21
Gabe
Just like.

00;18;22;00 - 00;18;36;12
Lauren
I felt that she was just so unavailable that he was resentful and didn't handle that properly and.

00;18;36;26 - 00;18;37;09
Gabe
Ended up.

00;18;38;00 - 00;19;04;26
Lauren
Coming to the conclusion rightfully that hey, this is not a good relationship for me because she's not meeting my needs and it's making me frustrate it and this needs to end. And unfortunately, that was right around the time Nancy decided kind of quietly by herself that she was there. So. Yeah, yeah.

00;19;05;25 - 00;19;24;14
Gabe
Well, I think yeah, I think that just is my frustration is how he went about it. I'm not blaming him. I'm not against that. They broke up like, no, I don't think they're compatible. I think it is better. It's just more of how he handles things, how he does things and how. Yeah.

00;19;25;06 - 00;19;53;09
Lauren
I think we can be biased on that because we get we're privy to Nancy's thoughts and to Nancy's inner like I really like him, but I'm concerned about all of these other things. Like there's so much going inside her that she won't communicate. And so from his perspective, I feel like he could very easily see all of these walls.

00;19;53;09 - 00;20;19;29
Lauren
And then every once in a while she'll be like super warm and affectionate and he'll be like, Oh my gosh. So it is they're so I want more of that. And then she just closes that door right up again. And so he's just continually like just running into it because he doesn't know what her true feelings are. And, you know everything that's going on here because she just won't tell him.

00;20;19;29 - 00;20;41;10
Gabe
Um, we don't really talk about why he did the hard time, and I feel like that's kind of a key part of his character. Yeah. So he on a football team and they are all at a bar and his friend, that was a girl, I think they were kind of like a thing but not a thing. Like they had whatever.

00;20;41;10 - 00;21;04;14
Gabe
Regardless, his friend was there. Um, one of his, like, kind of seemingly arch nemesis football dudes was like, being super handsy with her and like, just was not taking no for an answer. And he tried to defend her. And I think punches started to get thrown and he unintentionally pushed him out of a window and the guy ended up dying.

00;21;05;10 - 00;21;41;06
Gabe
Tiffany came in on the tail end of it and it yeah. And so he ended up being convicted of manslaughter. Um, and then the other thing we kind of touched on is using mechanics. He works for Lucy's brother, and then eventually throughout the season, he becomes the co-owner of the club with George and, um, I think when he became the co-owner, I think his character started to see a lot of growth and he started to shape up a little bit and he was more tolerable for me.

00;21;41;19 - 00;21;55;14
Gabe
I can't I really this show, it was so hard for me. I can't handle teenage angst and like some of the things teenagers do and go through the thought process, I'm like, Hmm, I get it.

00;21;58;14 - 00;22;25;02
Gabe
But he got he got better and he I was nice. I still I'll just call him Nick. I don't think of him as that because he's not really what I would picture meant to be outside did like that. They tried to give Ned more personality. Like when they're thinking about making a Ned, because I think Ned definitely gets just absolutely blue balls and everything, like he has no personality.

00;22;25;02 - 00;22;47;02
Gabe
And I feel like it's always hard for a lot of people to like him and like I like him, but I also have what I think Ned should be and what would make sense for me. So I just think of him as Nick because I really don't think he's Ned and it's not because he's not with Nancy. I just don't feel like that's what it would be.

00;22;47;06 - 00;23;00;28
Gabe
But I did like him as a character. I like what he added to the group, what he added to the story. Um, I did, I did really appreciate it. And I think it was for the best that he does end up with George. I think.

00;23;01;09 - 00;23;01;29
Lauren
I was so.

00;23;01;29 - 00;23;02;22
Gabe
Excited.

00;23;03;10 - 00;23;26;12
Lauren
I saw it. Yeah, I saw it happening so early on and I was like, Oh yes, oh yes. And so then that's how I was like, All right, so Owen and Nancy are going to get together because I knew they were going to break Nancy and Ned off so that he could go be with George. I knew that Ned was not going to they were not going to have George and Ned cheat on Nancy.

00;23;26;29 - 00;23;41;04
Lauren
And so I knew that there had to be a breakup coming in there. So I was very pumped for that because I was. Yes. Tired of the Nancy that dramas. It's like, all right, let's go find love for these people.

00;23;42;07 - 00;24;06;01
Gabe
Yes. Yes. I also kind of assign notes I read when I was writing for George Fan as well was if you haven't seen it yet, see the trailers for it. Nate is of African-American descent. I did like how diverse they made it, obviously, Nancy and Beth, Nancy's Caucasian versus Caucasian. He's she's from Britain. Not saying you're from red.

00;24;06;10 - 00;24;14;16
Gabe
If you're British, you're Caucasian, but they both are aces. But then you have George was of Asian descent, I think Chinese. But I.

00;24;15;00 - 00;24;15;18
Speaker 3
Am not.

00;24;15;18 - 00;24;17;03
Gabe
100% sure, so I really don't.

00;24;17;07 - 00;24;18;26
Lauren
The character is Chinese. Yeah.

00;24;19;28 - 00;24;40;01
Gabe
Yeah, I think so. And I like that. I like that we have the diversity and I like that they actually started bringing in the different cultural aspects of it too. Like it wasn't just like we have different colored skins, we actually have like different cultures common.

00;24;40;07 - 00;24;53;00
Lauren
And we did, we did dealing with spirits from a Chinese perspective, we are dealing with spirits from a Native American perspective. Yeah, there's a lot going on there, which was really fun.

00;24;54;00 - 00;25;12;26
Gabe
Yes, yes, yeah. So speaking of George, she looks like her kind of defining thing in the beginning. As we first meet her, she's Nancy's nemesis from high school. Girls were making fun of George saying she was a slut.

00;25;13;21 - 00;25;18;16
Lauren
And she has reputation for hooking up with older men.

00;25;19;05 - 00;25;44;21
Gabe
Yeah, she had a reputation, and Nancy never said anything about that. However, she also never spoke out for George. And for my understanding, her and George had been kind of friends before that, and like even so, speak up for someone, you know, don't just let that stuff happen. Yeah. And then kind of the other thing about her too, in the beginning was obviously she was involved with Ryan Hudson.

00;25;45;11 - 00;26;04;27
Gabe
But what I liked about this charge, which I think is kind of George in general, she is I feel like she's a very hard worker. She's very goal oriented, obviously kind of hormonally title. She's the breadwinner for the family. She's very protective of her sisters. And then she is the manager of the cloth.

00;26;04;27 - 00;26;05;10
Speaker 3
Um.

00;26;06;10 - 00;26;28;02
Gabe
I felt like this was fitting for George. I was upset that Bess and George weren't related at first. That made me really upset. I was like, Man, we're going so far off of Canon. And then I was like, You know, it grew on me. If I stop thinking it so much as it had to be. Nancy Drew It didn't bother me as much.

00;26;28;02 - 00;26;42;23
Gabe
And so I liked that they weren't, because then we did get more diversity because they weren't. And I just yeah, I felt like George Scott. I felt like they all got a lot more personality than they had in the past.

00;26;43;27 - 00;27;22;13
Lauren
Definitely. Definitely. We did a lot more adventuring in their personal lives then. Yeah, at least I've seen adaptations go before because it's usually, you know, solving well, a mystery, an episode. But now we're solving basically two mysteries. What's some little like one episode mysteries thrown in there? But again, because they utilize all of the time in their hour long, 45 minute long episodes, we really get an understanding of their personalities and all their different relationships and however intertwined what's all going with this.

00;27;23;07 - 00;27;28;24
Gabe
So, yes, do you like George? Were you a fan of George.

00;27;29;01 - 00;27;49;14
Lauren
And liked George? Yeah. Yeah, I thought I liked her mom's character as well. Yeah, it was. Yeah. I thought it was a really fun way to show. I mean, it's a hard life being the breadwinner for the family. Yeah. And oh, my gosh, when I.

00;27;49;14 - 00;27;53;04
Gabe
Basically being the mom of your sisters and your mom.

00;27;53;17 - 00;27;54;05
Speaker 3
Mm hmm.

00;27;54;09 - 00;28;19;12
Lauren
Because her mom's an alcoholic, and it absolutely just broke my heart. When near the end, when Bess was just, like, my gosh, yeah. Dealing with all of those spirits. I mean, no wonder she drinks because she feels so alone. And then George has that moment where she realizes Mark gets a better understanding of her mom and like, why her mom is the way she is, instead of just kind of being resentful.

00;28;19;27 - 00;28;20;08
Gabe
Yeah.

00;28;20;08 - 00;28;58;07
Lauren
Of how she is. Yeah. So I thought that was really impactful. I thought it was growth too. Yeah. And I thought it was an interest thing at the end when they have George confront the mob dude Ryan because he's, you know, 40 years old or whatever and he was hooking up with a high school student and the show hadn't really addressed that all that much.

00;28;58;07 - 00;29;15;24
Lauren
Oh, he was under age in a high school student for most of their relationship, like it had been touched on that it hadn't been super directly addressed. And so George basically realizes that she is left over just.

00;29;15;24 - 00;29;16;15
Gabe
Trauma.

00;29;16;18 - 00;29;45;29
Lauren
Damage, so much emotional damage from that relationship where she owns the other. I can't call her a woman. She was a child. But and so she just basically does this whole monologue. Ryan, just thing like, here's how you hurt me. This is how you messed me up. You're a bad person, basically. And I just thought it was because at that point, we know that Ryan is Nancy's dad.

00;29;46;22 - 00;29;48;06
Speaker 3
Mm hmm.

00;29;48;06 - 00;29;53;12
Lauren
Did we talk about that? We talked about how Lucy's the mom.

00;29;53;12 - 00;29;55;05
Gabe
I think we said Ryan was the dad.

00;29;55;27 - 00;30;18;12
Lauren
Because that was a big reveal. I mean, I guess it was kind of like associated with Lucy that Lucy was pregnant with Ryan's baby, which means Ryan is Nancy's dad. And so Nancy has this whole major distress over now. She has two dads. And, you know, to find Carson and Kate are her adoptive parents. And that's just a whole thing.

00;30;18;12 - 00;30;45;07
Lauren
Anyway, so we we have discovered, you know, that Ryan is Nancy's real dad. And then that means George was hooking up with Nancy's dad, which is a separate thing. But yeah, so it's really interesting because the show starts to kind of be like, Oh, we're humanizing Ryan. We are. He's in love with Lucy. He's Nancy's dad, and he's going to actually try to put in the effort to be a good dad.

00;30;45;18 - 00;31;07;20
Lauren
And then in the finale, I think it's maybe the second, the last episode or the last episode. I don't remember. But in one of those, right at the point where we're starting to humanize him and feel a little bit better about him, then George comes in and is just like, Hey, here is why you a terrible person and then leaves him.

00;31;07;20 - 00;31;34;03
Lauren
And I think that's the last scene that we have in season one. I don't remember the last time I remember him in and so it's just a really interesting end piece for his character arc in season one. It's very important for George's so that she can kind of confront some of those demons before telling Nick like, Hey, this is what's going on with me.

00;31;35;00 - 00;32;06;00
Lauren
I want to I want you to know about it so that I can work through it and so that we can be happy together, because otherwise there's going to be stuff between us that you don't understand. Yeah. So it was important for George, but it was a weird ending for me for where Ryan ended the season because there's no really redeemable piece of that.

00;32;06;25 - 00;32;25;03
Gabe
Right? That part is like also weird and like, it's so hard to remember they are high schoolers. Like, I really feel like at the end of college with how old they look and how old they act, it's always so weird.

00;32;25;03 - 00;32;26;12
Lauren
To see they're 19 year old.

00;32;26;25 - 00;32;43;17
Gabe
Kids. Yeah, I forgot about that. He's such a child to. I always forget how old he has to be because he literally acts like he's still a high schooler.

00;32;43;29 - 00;33;01;03
Lauren
He must be 36 or 37 because he was 18 and then Nancy was born and then we're 18, 19 years later. So it's like 37 ish. Yes. Hooking up with the 17 year old. Okay.

00;33;01;03 - 00;33;19;21
Gabe
I'm sorry. I was so excited for Bess. I remember freaking out when I started to see her have so much more personality. So she was introduced to us as this rich city girl with a mysterious past. And then it really turns out she was actually just raised in a terrible part of England wanting to get out of it.

00;33;19;21 - 00;33;42;03
Gabe
And find her long lost relatives. She does live in the van, but she does end up staying with Nancy. Um, not even just a short while. I think there's a couple of times where she ends up back there for different reasons. I love this for her. Like, don't steal things, kids, but I love for her that she's a kleptomaniac like I have.

00;33;42;03 - 00;33;58;25
Gabe
I love that. And we also got the more diverse we've got a character in the LGBTQ class. Um, she never really says what she is. I would, I guess I would just see her specific.

00;33;59;25 - 00;34;25;28
Lauren
As she kind of alludes to it. She writes this plot tanker platonic anchor relationship, which is very cute because he's hitting on her for a while and then sees her kind of get together with Elizabeth. And it's just like, All right, let's chill. We're platonic, but we're still besties or we're still kind of an anchor in each other's lives.

00;34;25;28 - 00;34;48;20
Lauren
So they call each other their little anchor and just maintain that friendship the entire season, which is very cute. But yeah, when she's talking to him because he's trying to say, Hey, what's happening with Elizabeth? Are you guys going to go out? And she spends a while talking about how she doesn't really date anybody because she's got these secrets.

00;34;48;20 - 00;35;05;16
Lauren
And yeah, so she can't really open up to anyone and has every, every single has so many secrets that they cannot share with anyone else. And so that piece is really interesting.

00;35;05;16 - 00;35;30;27
Gabe
Yes, that's what I mean. It's like she alludes to she never specifically says anything about her sexuality. And there are several sexualities where she could be with both men and women. So I would just go with, I think she's supposed to be bi. I think that's the intention because she has had past boyfriends and I think, yeah, so I think that's what we'll go with.

00;35;31;10 - 00;36;04;11
Gabe
But I, they're definitely pushing more of her with females and I like that. And I think that not seeing sexuality adds depth to your character, but the what they did with it and how they use that, I think added depth to the character that she'd never had before. She also very firmly believes in the supernatural and as even though she believes she's so easily freaked out by it and like it's all like, Oh my gosh.

00;36;04;11 - 00;36;06;24
Gabe
And then obviously she's a waitress at the closet.

00;36;06;24 - 00;36;42;11
Lauren
Nancy Yeah, I also really liked that she is just so girly, which yes, the books and the games, George is always the tomboy is, you know, strong and tough and then faces, you know, the pretty girl who likes shopping and just likes girly girl things. And so they very much them in those kind of little silos, but then added so much depth and breadth to the characters, which was fun.

00;36;42;11 - 00;37;16;02
Gabe
So yes. Yes. And I love that that you. So stay true to kind of the original parameters of the character. But then you added all these different little nuances and details and unique things that fleshed out the character and gave them more. Because I feel like a lot of the times these characters definitely fell victim to side character syndrome and they just were not given the love I think they deserved because it is more than just the romance is not just be love, Nancy.

00;37;16;02 - 00;37;47;03
Gabe
And like you need good. I don't even want to call them supporting characters because they're also main characters. You need, you know, good supporting characters to have a good story. So I think she is probably my favorite of the translations from the originals too. Like this interpretation, she definitely my favorite and I think she does the much needed love and work she did and she turned out really well like she.

00;37;47;03 - 00;37;49;12
Gabe
I just love the dynamics that she brings to the group.

00;37;50;07 - 00;37;52;00
Lauren
Yeah, I love that's.

00;37;54;13 - 00;38;22;05
Gabe
And I just, I would have been so upset if they did not keep all the girly thirsty ness of like I love that for her. Maybe it's like stereotypical girl and all of that. But I always, I always loved that for that was like something I, I was a appreciated about this. All right, then we have your favorite your favorite ace.

00;38;22;20 - 00;38;30;00
Gabe
I don't know where I found this from, but this felt like the amiable burnout was like his character description I.

00;38;30;25 - 00;38;31;04
Speaker 3
Or.

00;38;32;26 - 00;38;34;12
Lauren
Was not. I mean.

00;38;36;02 - 00;38;56;26
Gabe
That was not I was just I think that was his descriptor on wiki and I thought that was so funny. So I, I put that just because I was. Yeah, but I think the key things is a self-taught hacker, which is what ended up getting him in trouble in the past. And then because of that, that caused him to have a relationship with the police chief.

00;38;57;17 - 00;39;13;08
Gabe
And he was, you know, feeding the police information to try and keep out of getting in trouble and stuff. He was the son of a former police officer and state cop. This what I was unsure about is he the cook or the busboy for the car or both?

00;39;13;15 - 00;39;21;27
Lauren
I think it's both. They sometimes show other actors in the kitchen and I'm like, I think what the primary.

00;39;21;27 - 00;39;22;14
Gabe
Lead, though.

00;39;22;25 - 00;39;23;07
Lauren
Is.

00;39;23;23 - 00;39;24;07
Gabe
Right?

00;39;24;27 - 00;39;33;21
Lauren
Because he was definitely cooking. I think he's the cook because he was cooking dinner during the murder.

00;39;34;03 - 00;39;46;11
Gabe
I sure that's true. I think initially when they didn't have other people, he was the cook and the busboy, Nancy Best waitresses. George is the manager and does, you know, whatever else says.

00;39;47;02 - 00;40;19;18
Lauren
Yeah, I would say this is. And so he's the son of a former police officer and his dad was the one who was involved in the case that eventually got poisoned. So. Right. Is he knew about the poison. And this is another I could I can keep talking about the suspicious circumstances. Where is I convinced he was involved or was somehow included because he was one of the people.

00;40;19;18 - 00;40;42;20
Lauren
And yes, we find out it was Karen who like took the poison and gave it and whatever because she was involved with the case also on the police side now. But the fact that Ace was connected to that case where it got the poison and he was the one who made the food and blah blah blah. Anyway, I was like, okay, I have all the evidence I need.

00;40;42;20 - 00;40;45;09
Lauren
Thank you.

00;40;45;09 - 00;41;13;13
Gabe
I love this. I loved him. I felt like he was a good counterpart, male counterpart to Nancy. Um, like he was all, all for the mystery and helping to solve and doing stuff. And I liked seeing him. I think he was a lot. I don't think he's a loner, but I think he was definitely an outsider, um, especially for a lot of his life.

00;41;13;25 - 00;41;21;04
Gabe
And to see him finally find a place where he belongs and kind of find a family and find himself.

00;41;21;15 - 00;41;21;26
Lauren
Yeah.

00;41;22;20 - 00;41;44;01
Gabe
I, I love that for him. And I loved his on dying trust in Nancy that Nancy's Nancy she knows she'll figure it out. Like when he drank the poison. And because he knew Nancy could not be, because obviously Nancy could not be wrong. Obviously, it was in water. I was like, Mom, man.

00;41;49;03 - 00;41;52;03
Lauren
Is the Gold River. He yeah.

00;41;52;16 - 00;41;59;11
Gabe
Yeah, I feel it. She has a little more intelligence than that and a little more autonomy.

00;41;59;11 - 00;42;26;23
Lauren
But clearly, half the time. No, but the other half the time he's just like, Oh, yeah, I put up cameras in the library. Oh, yeah, I put he. What's that called. What. Pee trackers on all of the library computers. This is what I'm saying. Like they're like, Oh, Howard, we know what Tiffany did. And he's just like, Oh, well, my mom worked at the library, so five years ago, I did this, this and this.

00;42;27;06 - 00;42;46;05
Lauren
Setting up security at the library. What, are you kidding? You set up keyboard trackers for all of the computers in the library? Why, I lazy. Lazy writing all I'm going to say there.

00;42;46;05 - 00;42;52;07
Gabe
I don't agree with lazy writing, but I've also definitely known people like him and people who would do those things.

00;42;52;29 - 00;42;55;19
Lauren
If they're in the library.

00;42;55;19 - 00;43;05;04
Gabe
Well, I mean, if you're going to do, why do all of them to see where people are doing curiosity? But yes, it to some.

00;43;05;04 - 00;43;06;24
Lauren
Extent using lazy or.

00;43;06;24 - 00;43;10;24
Gabe
Some lazy writing. I still loved.

00;43;10;24 - 00;43;35;28
Lauren
Him and I was thoroughly convinced that tip, the crash between Tiffany's sister and ace. I was convinced he caused the crash. I was convinced he was working for the Hudsons and he caused the crash to take her out. And that's why he was being like, Well, I don't really like her, but I am going to spend a lot of time with her.

00;43;36;16 - 00;43;52;07
Lauren
I was convinced he had ulterior motives on that and so I was just like, okay, well, she's going to end up dead and he's going to survive the crash because crash, that's very wrong. But that's what I was convinced. So suspicious.

00;43;52;13 - 00;44;12;26
Gabe
Of Victor, I think he just kind of like feel like within himself. He probably knew they weren't compatible, but also totally. He's so kind of love. I don't know. I loved I don't know if they're quite there, but he definitely really liked her and had a lot of feelings for her. Yeah, she was something.

00;44;13;27 - 00;44;36;07
Lauren
She was so fun. I was so excited when she came on. I was like, Oh, the Chaos Queen herself. Yes. My sister shows up, I think in episode two, ends up really just throwing the whole case around because everyone is like, oh, the case is solved. It was an accident or it was natural causes. And she just happened like literally no.

00;44;37;03 - 00;45;03;29
Gabe
Her plan that everyone would call at the funeral was like, that's some other by so obviously Carson Jr he's an original so how we should talk about him he had a strange relationship with Nancy after the passing of her mother and like he's rich. You start the season, you see, he's trying he's trying to figure out how to reconnect with Nancy.

00;45;05;12 - 00;45;25;20
Gabe
And then kind of his other really novel thing was he was tangled with the Hudson family. He got out of it, I think, because of Nancy's mom and this mom saying, like, we got, you know, cut this and all that. And then obviously him taking Nancy as a child and then he ends up getting tangled up.

00;45;25;20 - 00;45;33;09
Lauren
That's the whole reason that they left. Yeah. Like he stopped working in the Hudson to keep Nancy away from them.

00;45;34;07 - 00;45;50;27
Gabe
Yes. But prior to that, Kate had also been being like, you know, we need to start getting away from this. Like, this isn't cool. Good. But yeah, he then gets tangled with them because he needs the money to help Nancy for, like, the bail and other stuff.

00;45;51;24 - 00;46;01;26
Lauren
Nancy went to jail for this. Nancy broke in to the morgue to steal blood of Tiffany. Yeah. That's how she ends up in jail, right?

00;46;02;28 - 00;46;15;16
Gabe
Yeah. Yes. And I thought, I don't know if true to character, but I thought he was good. I think he's a good dad for Nancy. He felt like Carson drew.

00;46;15;27 - 00;46;16;09
Speaker 3
Him.

00;46;17;01 - 00;46;31;22
Gabe
Maybe a little softer than what I imagine carson jr to be. Mm hmm. I just. I don't know how to explain it. Not that he was soft, but, like, I don't know.

00;46;32;01 - 00;47;05;26
Lauren
Well, Carson in the books feels just so detached. And I think it's similar with, you know, the other characters, which have smaller roles and are, you know, just like, oh, nice boyfriend, great, pretty shopping girl, lawyer, dad, you know, it's just very yeah, it's kind of stock images. And so in the books at least, he and Nancy have a pretty formal relationship where she's just like, Hi, Dad.

00;47;06;05 - 00;47;27;05
Lauren
Hannah and I made dinner or whatever, and she's like, Let's talk about the case that I'm working on. It's like, okay, like it's it's a very just almost like fifties TV relationship where it's yeah, you know, basically two colleagues who happen to be related.

00;47;28;11 - 00;47;48;16
Gabe
Yes. But I was thinking or I guess I, I compared him more to the casting and the games because I like Carson in the games better than the book because he's friendlier and warmer. And what I would want my dad more of what I would want. I don't want to change my dad. But like if I were to have done, you know what?

00;47;48;16 - 00;48;03;04
Gabe
Anyways, I like him better than not working with our guys, so I guess that's more of what I think Carson Jr would be is the game cards of Drew and I guess that's kind of what I was preparing. Comparing.

00;48;03;19 - 00;48;04;00
Lauren
Yeah.

00;48;04;21 - 00;48;07;29
Gabe
But I liked them. I think they did great. I love the actor they chose.

00;48;08;28 - 00;48;57;05
Lauren
Yes, he was very fun if you haven't seen anything else. He also plays a slimy lawyer in Oh gosh, what was that show called? It was a cringeworthy detective show from Perception. It's called Perception. It was a show in probably 2008 or so. And it was a detective show where the main guy who was kind of the the crime solver or but he wasn't associated with the police.

00;48;57;05 - 00;49;31;19
Lauren
He worked with the police and he had schizophrenia. And that was the whole thing about the show is that he has visions basically, or talks to the people who were murdered. And it's basically his psyche planning things out. And Rachel Rachel Leigh Cook is the main police detective in that. And her ex-husband, who is a slimy lawyer, is Carson Drew.

00;49;32;15 - 00;49;37;12
Lauren
And he's very good and it's very fun.

00;49;37;12 - 00;49;42;10
Gabe
I love that show, but I totally do not remember Carson driving.

00;49;42;15 - 00;49;48;04
Lauren
As soon as he popped up, I was like, Oh, look who it is playing another lawyer.

00;49;48;04 - 00;50;05;17
Gabe
Just pure. So much younger than that. My hair. Oh, wow. I can't believe I didn't. Wow. Shook is. Yes.

00;50;05;17 - 00;50;09;18
Lauren
I think this cast is this great ten out of ten for casting.

00;50;10;19 - 00;50;31;12
Gabe
Yes. They all like I look at them, I'm like you are definitely your character. I like I feel it. I feel it in my soul. I don't know how much or if we really want to talk about these, but I guess kind of the most important of the side characters is obviously Ryan Hudson and his family. I think we could maybe talk a little more about them.

00;50;32;05 - 00;50;46;24
Gabe
And Tiffany was his wife and then I think we kind of covered pretty much everything of Detective Karen. Yeah. So I guess if you want to talk about Hudson family, your thoughts on them, your feelings.

00;50;47;05 - 00;51;13;13
Lauren
Yeah, I really liked the sealing a phone call and that we got to really see that Celia is kind of pulling a lot of the strings like her, like the husband is doing a lot of kind of the business stuff. But when it comes to a kind of mafia shenanigans, she's pulling the strings on that. And I really liked how they portrayed that.

00;51;13;13 - 00;51;21;23
Gabe
I don't agree.

00;51;21;23 - 00;51;25;29
Lauren
Explain.

00;51;25;29 - 00;51;28;17
Gabe
No, I'm just trying to I don't want to. I can't just.

00;51;28;17 - 00;51;33;19
Lauren
Oh, you can't tell me. Okay, that's fine. We're going to also talk about season two later.

00;51;33;19 - 00;51;38;29
Gabe
So I'm just trying to remember what we see of her in season one.

00;51;39;13 - 00;51;42;16
Lauren
We see her doing the phone call for the hit on Carson.

00;51;43;22 - 00;51;46;29
Gabe
I think I can agree. I think I thought what you thought.

00;51;47;20 - 00;51;48;05
Speaker 3
Hmm.

00;51;48;23 - 00;51;49;04
Lauren
Okay.

00;51;49;08 - 00;51;57;27
Gabe
In season one, she seemed like she was definitely more charge than initially how it seemed.

00;51;58;24 - 00;52;22;17
Lauren
Yeah. So season one, we find out about her affair. We find out that she is starting rumors about Lucy to try to get her to leave town to stop that relationship. So that basically Lucy will leave. No one will believe her and think that if she says anything about the affair, that she's lying to try to get back at them.

00;52;22;29 - 00;52;53;28
Lauren
So we see her motivations so clearly. Right. And get little images of her being like, oh, Ryan, just give me this thing and it will all be okay. And then he doesn't. So we just kind of see that mask of rage and whatnot come over her face. And so we, we know that she's a bad person. So she was a very viable candidate, especially because there was female hair on the crown and we didn't know whose hair that was.

00;52;53;28 - 00;53;04;04
Lauren
And so they brought her in to be a another woman whose hair it could be, even though I think a lot of us had suspicions that it was Kate's hair. A lot of the time.

00;53;05;17 - 00;53;16;16
Gabe
When she's definitely more at the forefront in season one, like you see her and are confronted more by her and her nature than you are ever.

00;53;17;13 - 00;53;38;16
Lauren
Yeah, well, we she I think we we find out that they've heard about the affair, like the affair gets revealed at the near the end of season one. And so then it's yeah. So I'm sure her power kind of leaves at that point.

00;53;39;11 - 00;53;42;27
Gabe
During the affair about her and Sebastian.

00;53;43;05 - 00;53;43;14
Lauren
Yeah.

00;53;44;16 - 00;53;50;12
Gabe
Oh he definitely already knew about that. That's definitely not new news to him.

00;53;51;06 - 00;53;52;04
Lauren
Ryan didn't know.

00;53;53;03 - 00;53;54;08
Gabe
Oh yes.

00;53;54;28 - 00;54;01;21
Lauren
So that was. And then it goes to jail. He gets arrested.

00;54;01;21 - 00;54;02;04
Gabe
Right.

00;54;03;16 - 00;54;06;25
Lauren
For fraud or something and that it's. Yeah.

00;54;07;27 - 00;54;14;25
Gabe
And oh I thought you sorry. I thought you were saying that dynamic might have changed because I ever found out about Celia's.

00;54;15;27 - 00;54;36;25
Lauren
No, I think just it wasn't a secret. It was made public. And therefore, you know, that dynamic is going to naturally change once everyone knows what. And it kind of removes her once she's not a suspect anymore. It's kind of like, all right, I never know.

00;54;36;25 - 00;54;48;22
Gabe
I can't say anything. I'll wait for two. It'll be interesting to see your thoughts on season two. I like that you gave her so much power though. I do love that for her.

00;54;48;22 - 00;55;18;00
Lauren
I was looking for everyone. I was suspicious of everyone. And again, I watched all 18 episodes over the course of three days. So I really was able to kind of find a lot of patterns. But again, I wouldn't necessarily have noticed or looked at if I was on the 65 week basis, but because I was watching them back to back and I was like, okay, we did this two episodes ago, we're doing this again.

00;55;18;00 - 00;55;33;28
Lauren
Maybe that's important or maybe it's just a red line because they gave us a lot of red herrings or just like that is tied side mysteries and secrets that ultimately, you know, didn't affect.

00;55;34;12 - 00;55;34;16
Gabe
Yeah.

00;55;35;23 - 00;55;37;08
Lauren
Have nothing to do with Tiffany's death.

00;55;38;28 - 00;55;47;24
Gabe
Or at least a silly thought. She would still have been the one who somehow had to do with Lucy's death.

00;55;47;24 - 00;55;49;06
Lauren
I really do. Yeah.

00;55;49;11 - 00;55;49;22
Gabe
Yeah.

00;55;50;06 - 00;56;21;04
Lauren
That also for me feels like lazy writing personally, that it's it was just like, oh, well, actually, she her death was actually a mistake. But luckily she was looking into all of these things, haunted by like she was so involved in the mystery and then just happened to be killed by mistake. I don't know. I just think that there is there's a more interesting way they could have done that.

00;56;22;19 - 00;56;50;01
Gabe
Yes. Yes. Okay. I do have questions. I think we should quick answer before. So I guess I'll try to be concise. Um, so I don't know if you noticed this or saw this, but they kind of tried to, it seems like include parts of cases from the books like little bits and parts, you know, like the Hidden Staircase is like the easiest one to remember.

00;56;50;01 - 00;56;55;22
Lauren
I think is secret. The old clock they brought, Hannah grew in and which was really, really fun.

00;56;56;27 - 00;57;08;04
Gabe
Yeah. So I really like that. Um, I guess I kind of was like, What did you think about it? Do you wish they did? More or less.

00;57;08;04 - 00;57;09;01
Lauren
Like like I.

00;57;09;01 - 00;57;16;16
Gabe
Personally liked it. I like the connection to the books. I like seeing some of that being brought in that way.

00;57;17;00 - 00;57;40;07
Lauren
I loved that. I loved that they were bringing in, even if the mystery wasn't in any way similar, the fact that the reference, the Golden Pavilion or it was just all of these little Easter eggs, which was fun. Another thing that I thought was truly hilarious was product placement.

00;57;41;13 - 00;57;44;16
Gabe
Yeah, yes, there was. My dad talked about that.

00;57;44;16 - 00;58;08;19
Lauren
A lot of timing that happened partway through that season because they used to just do phone calls and then partway through the season, every single episode, they were face time and somebody somebody was not around. So they were face timing, Nancy. And it was like, okay. And there were a collection of Yelp references. Yeah, there were.

00;58;09;25 - 00;58;12;02
Gabe
It references to.

00;58;12;10 - 00;58;33;10
Lauren
Yeah, there were. I'm, I listed a whole bunch of references like message in the Hollow Oak. Yeah. The Golden Pavilion Larkspur Lane was a reference Pine Hill. Yeah. Yeah. I just kept writing another face time reference, another face time reference.

00;58;35;00 - 00;58;38;22
Gabe
I, I loved the list and none of her longevity.

00;58;39;14 - 00;59;07;05
Lauren
Things were in the cloud. And so that was referenced several times as well. And Airbnb was referenced as well in episode 17. So yeah, there were there were some product placement pieces in there that I thought were hilarious. But yeah, Apple clearly was putting some serious money into it, which I guess thank you. It was a good show.

00;59;07;05 - 00;59;33;11
Gabe
Sure. Now I like the connection to the bookstore. I felt like, you know how you look for the actual literal Easter egg in the 92 games. It felt like those was like we were getting in the Easter egg. So I yeah, I agree. Another kind of important thought is how did you feel about the paranormal and how much there was in like that?

00;59;33;11 - 01;00;03;21
Gabe
Because I initially like when I think about it as a Nancy Drew, it kind of disappoints me and makes me sad. I loved that Nancy. Drew was always the borderline question, especially the games. Is it supernatural or is it really just humans being weird? However, if I don't think of it as a Nancy Drew and just it's own thing, I really loved it because I love the paranormal, I love the supernatural.

01;00;03;21 - 01;00;03;25
Lauren
Yeah.

01;00;03;29 - 01;00;11;10
Gabe
And I thought they did a good job and it was really interesting in the mythology and stuff. And so like I get every time.

01;00;11;26 - 01;00;18;12
Lauren
I like, I mostly liked that it was a human who did the murders.

01;00;19;11 - 01;00;19;21
Gabe
Right?

01;00;20;05 - 01;00;28;15
Lauren
Yes. Well, yes, two murders. I'm against someone, not Lucy, obviously. So I liked.

01;00;30;17 - 01;00;35;25
Gabe
That also kind of Lucy, because the town, you know, kind of drove her. But yes.

01;00;35;25 - 01;00;52;27
Lauren
Yeah, yeah. So I kind of I liked that, I guess as soon as I because for a while I did think it was Nancy. I did think it was at least partially in Nancy's head.

01;00;53;23 - 01;00;55;15
Gabe
And so yeah, yes, same.

01;00;55;18 - 01;01;14;26
Lauren
I fully was like, okay, this is her trauma. And then when Lucy started appearing to other people and then other people got involved in the paranormal, and I was like, Okay, now this is like either a town wide mania or a gas leak or it's something's going on. Still might be a gas leak. Still jury's out on that one.

01;01;16;13 - 01;01;44;07
Lauren
But yeah, I. I thought it added something fun to the show, something that kind of made it stand out a little bit more because there are so many detective shows nowadays. But I didn't know how Nancy Drew was going to be like, All right, we are something different if we're starting in this day and age. So I think kind of going kind of the stranger things route makes a lot of sense.

01;01;45;10 - 01;02;03;15
Gabe
Yeah, I agree. I agree. So we did touch on this a bit, but I like how would you say Nancy's detective style in this compared to kind of how they have her be like and the games and how they have to be in the original books?

01;02;04;07 - 01;02;24;04
Lauren
Yeah, well, in the original books, just like with this show, she is very one track minded where she absolutely is just like, great, you all can do whatever you want to do. But this mystery absolutely comes first to me and I'm going to solve it. Gosh dang it. And she does it because it's the right thing to do.

01;02;24;18 - 01;03;06;18
Lauren
So absolutely. 100%. I fully agree with what you were talking about earlier, where she is just like, yup, I know you guys are living your life. I have to solve this because I want it is dead and somebody has to figure that out. Somebody has to find out why. And so I did really enjoy that. Yeah, that she was so driven to do that and utilized whatever tools she had around her kind of regardless the impact to go and do that because again, it was the right thing to do.

01;03;06;18 - 01;03;49;22
Gabe
Yeah, I feel like the games, it's a little bit harder to compare it to because you are kind of the one who's controlling, Nancy. But yeah, I agree with what you're saying from the show to the book, I feel like they did a really good job of translating Nancy from the books to this. But then, like you were saying about the other characters giving her the nuances, the details, the backstory, the stuff to really flesh her out and make her real and relatable beyond just like an idol and like as a child, something you want to look up to, but something you can actually relate to and be like, you know, she is human.

01;03;50;07 - 01;03;56;10
Gabe
She does make mistakes, but she, you know, makes up for it. And this is mine. Yeah. Yeah.

01;03;56;20 - 01;04;21;22
Lauren
She felt very real. Yes, she drove me. Every character does. But I was like, I, I get why she is doing it. If she would take a half breath before she did some things, then things might work out better. But at the same time, I totally wouldn't.

01;04;21;22 - 01;04;22;10
Gabe
Have a show.

01;04;23;06 - 01;04;55;16
Lauren
Exactly a lot of the time, she said in the worst possible decision she can make in the moment and everything's just her in. And a lot of them, they're like, Oh my gosh. But she was so near the end of the show once she knows that Ryan is her dad, but he doesn't know that he's her dad and she's just like, okay, so I need his blood, or I need him to be involved in this ritual because we're family, but he can't know that.

01;04;55;16 - 01;05;16;12
Lauren
And so they're driving in a car and she is so consumed by the fact that he's her dad and cannot keep this secret that is just bubbling inside her. And so just like starts yelling at him about what a bad person he is when he is the only person who can do this thing and she can't tell him why.

01;05;16;12 - 01;05;39;08
Lauren
So the only thing she has to do is be like, it's a favor to me. I need you to do this. Don't ask questions and just like chill for a moment to do the ritual and then doesn't have to talk to him probably ever again, I don't know. But instead she flips out at him and then he's just like, okay, bye.

01;05;39;08 - 01;06;14;13
Lauren
And just drives off. He's just like, I don't actually need to deal with this and leaves her alone. And now she's just like, Oh my gosh, I screwed up the one chance I got and she left a locket in the car that leads him to his realization that she's his child. So like, she made the choice in that moment because she was so overwhelmed by everything that was going on inside her that it just erupted out of her at the worst possible moment and almost completely screwed herself over.

01;06;15;22 - 01;06;24;14
Gabe
Right. But I feel like that's not like one of the things that makes her real, though, and why this is so believable.

01;06;24;19 - 01;06;24;23
Lauren
Yeah.

01;06;24;27 - 01;06;40;07
Gabe
Is that because I've definitely been there, like not since duration, but where you're just you're just so there's just so much going on in your head. You've got so many things, you're so stressed, you're so anxious.

01;06;40;07 - 01;06;42;04
Lauren
For that boyfriend and her world is.

01;06;42;04 - 01;06;56;07
Gabe
Crashing, and and you just need to get through one thing, and all of a sudden, you just can't and you snap and like, oh, oh, yes.

01;06;56;13 - 01;06;56;24
Lauren
Yeah.

01;06;57;01 - 01;07;13;26
Gabe
Okay, I guess, kind of quick, quick two points overall fox on the show, like would you recommend it? And then from that, where do you want to see the show go and what are your season two predictions?

01;07;14;26 - 01;07;31;20
Lauren
Um, yeah, so the Glinka is going to be a whole thing, so I don't know if we're going to solve that like in the first episode, and then we'll get a new murder mystery or what's going to happen. I mean, the show just got approved for a fourth season, so there's clearly so much going on in this town.

01;07;32;02 - 01;08;08;05
Lauren
I'm assuming we're still going to be trying to take down the Hudson's because that is Ned's mission. And Lisbeth is trying to take down the Marvin who best is related to and involved in and at the very end, we saw that Sebastian Marvin, the one who died, he painted. Was he the one who painted the painted the painting that has the head like it in the background.

01;08;08;22 - 01;08;28;12
Lauren
So her family is somewhat involved and they have kind of determined that the lake was a person who drowned. And so there is kind of I think that's going to be a murder mystery that they're going to have to be figuring out, you know, who was she and how did she die and how are the markets involved. So I think that I mean, it's.

01;08;29;12 - 01;08;53;15
Gabe
Not a 100% sure if you want to paint it, because the paintings were of the there's like the original Hudson and the original Marvin. And I think the painting is of the original Marvin who came over to, you know, sad. Right. And so I don't I don't know. But yes, like it is.

01;08;53;15 - 01;09;18;29
Lauren
Yeah. So the margins are somewhat involved with the look like that. So I think that's I think basically both of those families taking down both of those families is going to be the primary work once the either as part of or once the clay court is mollified.

01;09;20;23 - 01;09;26;16
Gabe
Do you think Nick and George will still be going strong?

01;09;26;16 - 01;09;35;16
Lauren
And I think they will be at the beginning because George just had her breakthrough moment, right?

01;09;35;23 - 01;09;36;02
Gabe
Yeah.

01;09;36;03 - 01;10;02;07
Lauren
Yelling at Ryan. I think they will start strong. And then I think George will realize how much work she needs to do on herself to continue growing. Like I think she's going to need more time or therapy or something or I think they're going to break up. Yeah. I mean, everyone in that group needs therapy. That's true.

01;10;02;11 - 01;10;02;28
Gabe
That's true.

01;10;03;09 - 01;10;12;00
Lauren
I so I think they're going to start out strong, but I think they are going to break up.

01;10;12;00 - 01;10;38;28
Gabe
Okay. I'm trying to think if there's any other like I feel like those are kind of the big things. Yeah, I, I really it I had to kind of separate Nancy, but I feel like that a lot of times when I watch adaptations, I have to try and separate enough where I get rid of what my expectations and what I feel like it should be are that I can just enjoy it for what it is because it was good, is enjoyable.

01;10;38;28 - 01;10;57;29
Gabe
It kind of reminds me a lot of like Riverdale Season one and like all of that and like I love that. I love the CW. Sometimes they go a little crazy, but I many of their shows I have deeply, deeply loved. Yeah so I know it's not I'm glad I enjoyed.

01;10;57;29 - 01;10;59;05
Lauren
Clutter watching it's.

01;11;00;05 - 01;11;25;28
Gabe
I know I definitely recommend it and you don't need to be an integer fan you don't need to have read it or know anything about Nancy to appreciate it. And I think that is huge. Totally. Obviously, I can't really give season two predictions because I know what happens. But I definitely I definitely thought what you thought about making George going into season two.

01;11;25;28 - 01;11;53;08
Gabe
I definitely was thinking that and I was definitely thinking your thoughts of, okay, this is going to be our next main plot. I mean, obviously it might not be all of season two because when you have that many episodes, you kind of have like a half season half season. But I definitely thought like it was like going to be the first few episodes and then the rest of the season will maybe be like the repercussions of the things they did because like the L.A. was worse.

01;11;53;08 - 01;11;55;27
Lauren
Because you have that new car that came.

01;11;55;28 - 01;12;25;23
Gabe
Yeah, yeah. And I was like, yeah, we've clearly just like blown open the door of paranormal with and the supernatural at the end. Like go like we're going to be seeing some actor effects from all the spiritual messing around we've been doing. Yeah. So yeah, I was definitely with you on there. I can't really think of anything else or I was just like, Oh, I also was like, season two is definitely going to start.

01;12;26;03 - 01;12;34;21
Gabe
Like, Everett's totally going to find out. Nancy is a Hudson and I feel like he's going to he will be a main thing of season two and trying to do the like.

01;12;35;06 - 01;12;41;22
Lauren
So there's going to be some weird drama with Bess, the Marvin and Nancy, the absence.

01;12;41;22 - 01;13;08;23
Gabe
Yes, exactly. Yes. And the dynamic that we bring to the different group. Yes, for sure. All right. If you've covered your thoughts, I think and there's still so much more that can be talked about because there are so much. But I think I think we mostly covered it. Thank you, everybody, for listening. We really appreciate that. Links will be in the description where you can find sweetie and I'm sorry because she's tweeting on it.
