00:00:10:19 - 00:00:15:02
Gabe
Hello. Hello. Welcome back to another episode of I Don't Believe In Side Quests, I'm Gabe.

00:00:15:03 - 00:00:15:21
Lauren
And I'm Lauren.

00:00:17:09 - 00:00:18:12
Gabe
And we're going to.

00:00:18:12 - 00:00:19:02
Lauren
Be.

00:00:19:17 - 00:00:27:08
Gabe
Going over kind of like reviewing and just discussing the new Sherlock Holmes game. Awakened. The Awakened.

00:00:27:19 - 00:00:32:28
Lauren
Is. I think he's awakened. Yeah, I think so.

00:00:34:17 - 00:00:37:11
Gabe
And it was a remake of the original.

00:00:37:29 - 00:00:39:27
Lauren
But before we do that.

00:00:39:27 - 00:00:50:03
Gabe
Catch up on the week, honestly, I'll just say I have nothing to say other than this was like probably one of the longest weeks of my career and I really wanted to cry and have a breakdown.

00:00:50:12 - 00:00:53:09
Lauren
You? No. As a.

00:00:53:09 - 00:01:10:26
Gabe
Sperm. It's been bad. It's been bad. There's been it's like it's like we went back to the beginning of the year and like but not in a good way. Like, they're not listening.

00:01:11:21 - 00:01:12:07
Lauren
At all.

00:01:12:26 - 00:01:40:13
Gabe
Kind of overall, not just like a few, but overall and just crazy and wild. And like, it's like we're pretending we don't know what the rules are of the classroom anymore and we've had to become extreme. I don't want to say problematic because they're not problems, but they're just, you know, they're disrupting the class and causing issues. And we.

00:01:40:13 - 00:01:40:26
Lauren
Had.

00:01:42:12 - 00:01:43:12
Gabe
Another really bad.

00:01:43:12 - 00:01:49:21
Lauren
Poop accident. Oh, no. Yeah, no.

00:01:49:21 - 00:01:59:09
Gabe
And it's the same. It's the same one who keeps having these accidents. And it's like not because she's sick, which is really frustrating.

00:01:59:09 - 00:02:03:03
Lauren
But and it's fun week.

00:02:04:22 - 00:02:16:07
Gabe
It is bug week this week and next week is creepy crawlies. So we learned about the ladybugs, bumblebees, ants and caterpillars or like butterflies.

00:02:16:28 - 00:02:20:00
Lauren
And you have a lot of flowers.

00:02:20:00 - 00:02:22:28
Gabe
We do have a lot of flower. It was the flower shop to go with the.

00:02:23:08 - 00:02:24:00
Lauren
But the bugs.

00:02:25:06 - 00:02:36:27
Gabe
They're obsessed. Oh, man. One of them. Okay. They make a huge mess in the dramatic play, but they're usually pretty good about cleaning it up. When we tell them they have to clean up, they're like.

00:02:37:07 - 00:02:40:18
Lauren
Okay, what's this drama? Hmm.

00:02:40:29 - 00:02:48:27
Gabe
It is. And this is one of our really small ones. Was like, I'm tired. My arms are tired.

00:02:48:27 - 00:02:50:12
Lauren
I can't clean it up.

00:02:51:08 - 00:02:52:20
Gabe
Or like, I can't clean it.

00:02:52:20 - 00:02:52:26
Lauren
Up.

00:02:54:00 - 00:03:05:03
Gabe
Like that, you know? So you shouldn't make so big of a mess if you're going to get tired. So she went over in there and started crying. It's just cleanup. So she's like.

00:03:05:28 - 00:03:15:03
Lauren
You know, it's like, Oh, boy, oh, no, little one.

00:03:15:04 - 00:03:23:17
Gabe
And it's not like this stuff is heavy too. So her being like, my arms are tired. Like, it's just fake flowers.

00:03:23:17 - 00:03:24:18
Lauren
Yeah. And, like.

00:03:25:00 - 00:03:30:29
Gabe
Plastic basins. It's not heavy. This is like a bless you.

00:03:31:13 - 00:03:33:16
Lauren
I always wonder where those cases are.

00:03:35:06 - 00:03:40:11
Gabe
Yeah, well, she has five siblings, so maybe that's.

00:03:40:11 - 00:03:41:22
Lauren
Why I'm.

00:03:41:22 - 00:03:48:12
Gabe
Like her face. She's so cute. And she cries. She's like, the epitome of, like, crocodile tears. Like.

00:03:48:27 - 00:03:49:14
Lauren
Just the.

00:03:50:06 - 00:03:51:21
Gabe
Like, really big eyes.

00:03:51:21 - 00:03:53:21
Lauren
And she the baby.

00:03:53:25 - 00:03:54:12
Gabe
I can't.

00:03:54:26 - 00:03:56:00
Lauren
Think of the family.

00:03:57:17 - 00:03:58:05
Gabe
In. There's one.

00:03:58:05 - 00:03:58:15
Lauren
More.

00:03:59:12 - 00:04:00:03
Gabe
After her.

00:04:01:15 - 00:04:01:27
Lauren
Yeah.

00:04:02:25 - 00:04:04:15
Gabe
So there's Angus seven total.

00:04:06:09 - 00:04:09:06
Lauren
Yeah. Uh.

00:04:09:27 - 00:04:10:25
Gabe
Six or seven.

00:04:10:25 - 00:04:19:02
Lauren
Yeah, yeah. Six. Yikes. My uncle is nine.

00:04:19:02 - 00:04:21:07
Gabe
Yeah, well, my mom comes from 12, so.

00:04:22:25 - 00:04:27:15
Lauren
Yeah. Wow. Yes, yes.

00:04:27:24 - 00:04:28:27
Gabe
Did you wish for that?

00:04:29:04 - 00:04:29:21
Lauren
Hmm.

00:04:30:04 - 00:04:51:17
Gabe
I think you just about that. Like you couldn't even speak the words. Well, in case they affected you know? Yeah. My oldest cousin is the same age as my mom's younger sister. Yeah, that's not. It's just 55.

00:04:53:03 - 00:05:01:06
Lauren
That's not shocking. And families like that with that many kids because there is going to be just such an age gap.

00:05:02:14 - 00:05:11:12
Gabe
Yeah, yeah. No, this is like 55 or something like that. And the youngest is I think he's in middle school now maybe.

00:05:13:13 - 00:05:20:00
Gabe
And then that's like not even including our second cousins or whatever you call the kids of your cousins. So kids.

00:05:20:00 - 00:05:22:02
Lauren
Your cousins are going to be once removed.

00:05:23:21 - 00:05:25:00
Gabe
Or are they once removed?

00:05:25:00 - 00:05:34:09
Lauren
It's a generation removed from yours. I was just having this conversation at Easter. So. Yeah, so you're I'm.

00:05:34:09 - 00:05:38:21
Gabe
Just calling them second because sounds awful when you're like they're once removed.

00:05:38:21 - 00:06:02:03
Lauren
Your cousin's cousin so like far out from you from like you know if you share a grandparent or you share a great grandparent or whatever, that's like first generation, second generation, etc., and then removed. It's either a generation like above or below your generation because it's just like, Oh yeah, it's my cousins, you're.

00:06:02:03 - 00:06:12:09
Gabe
Saying because they're the fourth generation from my grandma. I get what you're saying. Yeah, because like, yeah, they get to know their great grandma. It's so crazy to me sometimes.

00:06:12:18 - 00:06:23:21
Lauren
The aunts. That's your second cousin, for example. Yeah, right, right. That's wild. Mm hmm. Yeah.

00:06:23:21 - 00:06:39:08
Gabe
So that was. I was pretty much today. It was a long day. It wasn't bad. It's just long after a long week. It felt so long. I guess I am ready to go home. But that after carers they they're really late. So I.

00:06:39:08 - 00:06:39:18
Lauren
Was.

00:06:40:09 - 00:06:46:07
Gabe
There late and I was like I'm Friday who'll use their kids.

00:06:47:06 - 00:06:47:14
Lauren
Their.

00:06:47:16 - 00:06:52:25
Gabe
Forever on our Friday. That's so crazy to me. But it is what it is.

00:06:52:25 - 00:06:53:07
Lauren
Yeah.

00:06:53:12 - 00:06:54:21
Gabe
What about you? What did you do?

00:06:56:01 - 00:07:27:22
Lauren
I just. I know work was just taking a lot out of me this week. I think I'm just working on, like, a lot of creative projects that aren't, like, click to close or click to finish up. And so it's just like a lot of drafting and then trying to make it creative and look pretty and look nice and then give it, get feedback on it and then redo it in kind of a different.

00:07:27:22 - 00:07:53:19
Lauren
So it was just like a lot of like cyclical work and so that just like is exhausting because it just doesn't end at any time. You're like, Great, I think I got it done. Then somebody else comes back and they're like, Well, actually wanted a little bit different. And so then you have to add that back in. And if we have, you know, several different things that are all using that template, then you have to go and remake all of them.

00:07:53:19 - 00:08:02:07
Lauren
And so there's just like a lot of just going back and like redoing things we had already done. And so I just feel like I haven't done anything.

00:08:03:21 - 00:08:06:17
Gabe
Oh, yeah, cause you're not progressing.

00:08:06:18 - 00:08:07:05
Lauren
Exactly.

00:08:07:10 - 00:08:11:07
Gabe
Like you are progressing, but it doesn't feel like you are because you're just stuck in the cycle.

00:08:11:07 - 00:08:12:03
Lauren
Yeah. Mm hmm.

00:08:12:24 - 00:08:14:09
Gabe
I drive me bananas. Yeah.

00:08:14:16 - 00:08:22:23
Lauren
We usually record on Tuesdays, so usually we're like, you know, have done a couple of days of work and we're like, the green stuff's going on.

00:08:22:24 - 00:08:23:25
Gabe
So from the weekend.

00:08:23:25 - 00:08:30:25
Lauren
This is Friday. And so we're just both zombies brains.

00:08:31:15 - 00:08:48:06
Gabe
I'm so glad you added the her interactive stuff because literally before like two, 2 minutes before you joined, I'd seen the one other tweets. I was like, Should we bring this in? It's just crazy. Yeah. So I'll just read the bullet points that you.

00:08:48:06 - 00:08:49:28
Lauren
Put because.

00:08:50:06 - 00:09:04:23
Gabe
You're I think you're more connected than I am. I just like when I get the notification. Oh, so. Okay, what I can talk about what I did see was I saw the video, the very same mini game, the development and testing of the bar. Okay. So I think that's what I just watched right now before you.

00:09:05:17 - 00:09:06:19
Lauren
Die, they posted that and now.

00:09:08:05 - 00:09:31:04
Gabe
Yeah, that was super interesting. And you see all the servers and stuff like she's gone full on Starbucks. Okay? It was so wild and that her thinking like, have we ever done coffee before? Because I feel like I don't know why I feel like we have, but I don't think we've ever actually done coffee. I was just like, Have we done drinks?

00:09:31:04 - 00:09:40:17
Gabe
Oh, you know what? I'm probably thinking of this. The Irish one castle Mallow. Yeah, yeah, we do the drinks. I actually really liked that. I liked making those drinks.

00:09:40:22 - 00:10:09:12
Lauren
And we've done the sorbet. Things in danger by design. True. That's true. Yeah. We haven't done, like, latte art because her interactive has been showing us kind of game environments. I've like development in test images and so we've seen some kind of settings and then they had a into the other day that spelled out. Priester So we kind of like new like Barista Coffee Bar.

00:10:09:12 - 00:10:13:26
Lauren
We knew those pieces were coming in. We still don't know like that. That's just where we are.

00:10:15:19 - 00:10:16:26
Gabe
True. That's true. Yeah.

00:10:16:28 - 00:10:20:27
Lauren
But we know that coffee bar and doing like latte art and like.

00:10:21:21 - 00:10:23:16
Gabe
Creating, because that's not going to get a boozy.

00:10:23:16 - 00:10:38:20
Lauren
Coffee drinks. Oh, I know. I don't know if you saw L.A. Candy. Like Candy Graham and Ruby were talking about, you know, drawing dicks with latte art. I was like, ladies.

00:10:38:29 - 00:10:45:21
Gabe
I knew that was the first thing people would say to their eyes. All I could think was just real creative.

00:10:46:17 - 00:11:03:11
Lauren
Like, Oh, my goodness. So but by the time you guys hear this, it's going to be after April 28th. And April 28th, as we've mentioned before, is Nancy Drew's birthday. It's the date that.

00:11:03:19 - 00:11:05:02
Gabe
Like the character actor first.

00:11:05:02 - 00:11:55:09
Lauren
Arrived on the scene. And back in 29, 1929. Yeah, because I think it's her 93rd birthday or something like that. So we'll catch up with you in seven years. On her 100th six years. Six years on her 100th. It's going to be crazy. Yeah. So we've seen some development test images. We've seen the barista plays. So that does show that the game is further along because remember the last like tangible thing they told us was that they officially are working on a new game, but since they have these development test images are able to show like, you know, the basics of doing coffee things, the game is a lot further.

00:11:55:09 - 00:11:58:22
Lauren
It's they haven't like just started.

00:11:58:23 - 00:12:05:06
Gabe
It's not like Salem, you know what I mean? When they first announced Salem, there is nothing that they had really done.

00:12:05:06 - 00:12:05:21
Lauren
For it.

00:12:06:09 - 00:12:13:15
Gabe
Because we didn't even get a trailer like we have before in previous games. It was just I think the name of the next game.

00:12:13:15 - 00:12:19:09
Lauren
Was and then yeah, and they haven't even told us the name of this game.

00:12:19:09 - 00:12:22:03
Gabe
That's true. So maybe for the better.

00:12:22:26 - 00:12:35:10
Lauren
Yeah, we'll see. But if they start putting out like character models, like if they get Deirdre going on, they keep being like, you never know who's going to show up, which.

00:12:35:11 - 00:12:35:27
Gabe
Oh, I know.

00:12:35:27 - 00:12:41:01
Lauren
Right. Okay, great. Can't wait to find out. I don't know what that means.

00:12:42:09 - 00:12:53:13
Gabe
I'm feeling like I'm feeling a spring 20. No knows. I guess it's technically spring but like first quarter 2024.

00:12:53:18 - 00:12:54:16
Lauren
Mm hmm.

00:12:54:18 - 00:12:59:21
Gabe
If they keep it up like this and it's really that far along and that's what I'm feeling for a release.

00:12:59:21 - 00:13:00:03
Lauren
Yeah.

00:13:02:00 - 00:13:04:01
Gabe
If it comes out sooner than that, I'll be shook is.

00:13:04:20 - 00:13:13:21
Lauren
Yeah. Great. Hopefully on the 28 they'll be like next April, Nancy's coming or something like that.

00:13:13:21 - 00:13:16:21
Gabe
April 28th 2024 Yeah.

00:13:18:29 - 00:13:42:00
Lauren
April 28th. Name of the seven keys or whatever. So based on the game environment, I'm thinking she's out of university and looks collegiate to me in Europe. Sure. But like it looks kind of like old school collegiate.

00:13:42:00 - 00:13:42:28
Gabe
Definitely. Give me Europe.

00:13:42:28 - 00:13:44:27
Lauren
Vibes or like a museum.

00:13:46:16 - 00:13:48:00
Gabe
Or museum would be fun.

00:13:48:00 - 00:13:57:26
Lauren
There's something academic about it. I hope that we get Professor Hotchkiss back. That's my.

00:13:57:27 - 00:13:59:12
Gabe
Oh, my gosh. I love Hotchkiss.

00:13:59:12 - 00:14:07:00
Lauren
That's my dream that we would get Hotchkiss back and be like her little intern or something.

00:14:07:00 - 00:14:08:22
Gabe
I also hope we get a sunny June.

00:14:09:19 - 00:14:12:11
Lauren
Oh, a return reference. Oh, just.

00:14:12:11 - 00:14:26:00
Gabe
Across because it's. Oh, no, but you know what I mean. Like, like not maybe the character being on. We always get us notes and stuff for that. Like, that's what I mean. Yeah. Or if you did return, I mean, I wouldn't be upset about that either because I don't think.

00:14:29:06 - 00:14:41:22
Lauren
I want there to be allusions to writing him and Beth's hanging out and Beth's and George be like teasing Beth about like sunny June. Now it just be so fun. Yes, I want to.

00:14:41:22 - 00:14:42:24
Gabe
Have a little romance.

00:14:43:06 - 00:14:59:07
Lauren
She is the romance girly of the trio. She's the one who's like a little boy, crazy and, like, girly and whatever. I just want her to find love. And so she deserves some. Mm. They all deserve to find love.

00:14:59:07 - 00:15:03:20
Gabe
But honestly, it's been 34 games. Can she have. Yeah I. Can she have some laughs.

00:15:03:21 - 00:15:04:15
Lauren
Mm hmm.

00:15:04:24 - 00:15:07:15
Gabe
I feel like after 34 games that should be possible.

00:15:07:15 - 00:15:08:20
Lauren
Yeah, totally.

00:15:09:27 - 00:15:20:17
Gabe
I was just trying to think if we if we've seen anything about 20 June since the medallion one because isn't that on his end right. It's it's because it's it's New Zealand. Is it called medallion.

00:15:21:05 - 00:15:22:09
Lauren
Shattered medallion.

00:15:22:12 - 00:15:36:04
Gabe
Or whatever. Yeah. Shard medallion. I don't think we have anything from him after that. Yeah. He hasn't been since 13th so that's three games without him. I think he's you know, it's time for a game where he's back.

00:15:36:04 - 00:15:36:16
Lauren
All right.

00:15:36:20 - 00:15:42:21
Gabe
I did love that. They finally introduced us to him. I thought that was really clever. I actually really enjoyed chatter.

00:15:42:21 - 00:15:47:21
Lauren
Medallion. You and Abbi. Yeah.

00:15:47:21 - 00:15:48:18
Gabe
You didn't like that one?

00:15:49:07 - 00:15:53:18
Lauren
I.

00:15:53:18 - 00:15:58:22
Gabe
I felt like it moved plot, like overall plot. I felt like that's what I liked about it.

00:15:58:24 - 00:16:02:01
Lauren
Tied up loose ends. Mm hmm.

00:16:02:15 - 00:16:19:14
Gabe
Or like actually getting to meet sunny June and seeing him face to face and then the, you know, the stuff, the best and all that. Like, I feel like there's actually like over arching plot movement because some games that doesn't happen, but just totally fine.

00:16:19:28 - 00:16:32:15
Lauren
But yeah, like two of them it's clean was super sunny heavy as well because I one woman kept being like, oh yeah, the aliens this, the aliens this. And then being like, well, I'm part of Sunny June's like cult dunno.

00:16:32:26 - 00:16:33:27
Gabe
Yeah, that's right.

00:16:33:27 - 00:16:42:16
Lauren
And then, and that was 2012 and then Shadow Medallion came out in 2014, so. Right.

00:16:43:03 - 00:16:57:12
Gabe
Well if you think about it, so the first time we met, not met but heard of Sunny June was Scarlet Hand. And that's like number five. I think number four or five is super early on. 606 Okay. I was.

00:16:57:12 - 00:17:00:00
Lauren
Really close. I mean, I give you some props.

00:17:00:00 - 00:17:00:20
Gabe
I was pretty good.

00:17:02:08 - 00:17:07:10
Lauren
I keep forgetting fun and mansion came out the royal tower.

00:17:07:10 - 00:17:13:00
Gabe
Get that one mixed up too. In my scrapbook that I did for the nineties, I have them flipped.

00:17:14:06 - 00:17:14:26
Lauren
Logically that.

00:17:14:27 - 00:17:15:25
Gabe
Because I always in my.

00:17:15:25 - 00:17:25:18
Lauren
Brain rail tower and then haunted mansion, then final scene, then scarlet hand. That's how that's the worst. That's how they go.

00:17:25:18 - 00:17:27:05
Gabe
I feel that honestly. I feel.

00:17:27:05 - 00:17:52:13
Lauren
That. Okay, in my defense now almost take it back and take it back. I'm just looking at release dates because Message in a Haunted Mansion was released in November of 2000. And then it was like and that was for Windows. And then they would release it for GBA in November of 2001 and then treasure the Royal Tower was released in August 2001.

00:17:53:01 - 00:17:55:26
Lauren
So I was like, oh well message on anyway. Doesn't matter.

00:17:57:19 - 00:18:08:29
Gabe
I don't even remember. What is my sister in a haunted mansion? What's the one with the Dragons? That's the real tower, right? The dragons are on an insidious dragons.

00:18:08:29 - 00:18:15:16
Lauren
What one? Dragons. Where you find all the Chinese symbols in the house. Yeah.

00:18:15:27 - 00:18:16:23
Gabe
Yeah, yeah.

00:18:16:23 - 00:18:31:12
Lauren
Haunted mansion. Oh, but then what's Royal Tower? That's French. Marie Antoinette. That's where we meet. Oh, yeah. Uh huh.

00:18:32:08 - 00:18:43:18
Gabe
I remember the final sisters. Yeah, I remember the final puzzles. The staircase wasn't the final puzzle, but. Yes, okay. Yes.

00:18:44:12 - 00:18:45:17
Lauren
On a mansion. I saw one.

00:18:45:24 - 00:18:55:28
Gabe
I really like. Haunted mansion. That's right. I loved Haunted Mansion. I feel like it flowed really well. Yeah. One of their better games. Yeah, I did also really like Royal Tower two.

00:18:55:28 - 00:18:58:10
Lauren
I felt like there the early.

00:18:58:10 - 00:19:00:09
Gabe
It's very condominiums, very cohesive.

00:19:00:15 - 00:19:33:22
Lauren
That's the thing. It's a very cohesive. They came in with one game plan, didn't get distracted allows you the flexibility to like wander around and do different things but at the same time it was just like, okay, well you still need to like migrate around these corners and whatever. And there were like ghostly things going on and there was some element of like spookiness, but at the same time you're like doing the story, you're just meeting and having just normal conversations with people.

00:19:34:20 - 00:20:10:19
Lauren
And then, yeah, learning at the same time. But yeah, the storyline was like, it was simple, it wasn't super complex. This is going to steal one dime. And why are there so many issues and sabotage related activities happening in the House? Okay, that's the core piece. And then you're going through acting like a detective, just kind of like breaking into a little room or doing whatever, whatever, and just finding out what's going on.

00:20:10:26 - 00:20:12:06
Lauren
Like it's not a huge piece.

00:20:12:06 - 00:20:19:18
Gabe
Obviously, detectives just break into rooms I love. That's how you're being a detective and.

00:20:19:18 - 00:20:20:16
Lauren
Breaking news story.

00:20:20:16 - 00:20:21:02
Gabe
On it.

00:20:21:27 - 00:20:24:12
Lauren
I know, but it's just like that.

00:20:24:12 - 00:20:25:23
Gabe
That was the first thing.

00:20:26:02 - 00:20:36:29
Lauren
Amateur detectives, that's all that they do. They just sneak around and break into things that they're not supposed to be in class.

00:20:38:04 - 00:20:44:20
Gabe
Speaking of detectives, we both. I'm ready. I think we shipped. I feel like that's the great, you know. Yeah.

00:20:44:21 - 00:21:03:20
Lauren
So we've been talking about some heavy topics recently. So we wanted to talk or we wanted to play and talk about a game that we thought would be lighter fare. We may have aired lots.

00:21:03:21 - 00:21:11:15
Gabe
Of Gary Jazz. Oh, my. Oh. And so I guess we both played Sherlock Holmes through Awakened.

00:21:11:24 - 00:21:11:28
Lauren
The.

00:21:11:28 - 00:21:13:06
Gabe
Remake.

00:21:13:13 - 00:21:13:28
Lauren
Yes.

00:21:14:19 - 00:21:17:21
Gabe
Is it a remake or remaster? What's the difference?

00:21:17:21 - 00:21:52:25
Lauren
That's the day I can answer this. They remastered the game. Okay, so the original game came out in 2007. They did a remaster of it that came out in 2008 because the 2007 version only had first person, which sounds terrifying. So they like took that same game and like allowed it to. You could choose a third person option so you didn't have to be a first person, all of this.

00:21:53:29 - 00:22:16:21
Lauren
But so the remaster is just like taking the game more or less as it is, and then making some smaller adjustments or some quality of length adjustments or whatever. And that's kind of like a remaster versus a remake and saying, All right, we're going to start from scratch and rebuild the whole thing using our new engine, our new graphics, whatever, whatever, whatever.

00:22:18:09 - 00:22:21:27
Gabe
Okay. So it's not an exact copy of the original, but it's similar.

00:22:21:27 - 00:22:25:02
Lauren
Yeah. I think the storyline is.

00:22:25:24 - 00:22:26:06
Gabe
Is.

00:22:26:21 - 00:22:48:20
Lauren
Is fairly identical in regards to like what happens, but then the puzzles and the graphics and the music and the art and a lot of those other pieces like the atmosphere and everything is updated with modern engineering.

00:22:50:00 - 00:23:03:26
Gabe
You know, knowing that it was Lovecraftian and Catholic, maybe I should have expected it to be dark, but I didn't expect it to be as dark as it was.

00:23:04:13 - 00:23:04:29
Lauren
Mm hmm.

00:23:05:23 - 00:23:29:19
Gabe
And so I made note of all the places we went because I was like, This is crazy and all the different things that happen. So you start in London and your first depressing thing you run into if you explore is there's a dead labor. Children puzzle. Oh, no, I think it's because I also had the DLC. Okay, this is the other thing.

00:23:29:19 - 00:23:38:15
Gabe
I bought the deluxe version, I think. So I have the DLC. So this might be a DLC quests and maybe that's why you give me a look like you had no idea what I was talking about.

00:23:40:06 - 00:23:40:23
Lauren
Correct.

00:23:42:01 - 00:23:51:08
Gabe
Okay, well, you basically find these dolls and their representation of these labor children and it's I don't the finals.

00:23:51:08 - 00:23:55:03
Lauren
So, like, I'm super glad I missed this.

00:23:55:03 - 00:24:17:24
Gabe
Where do you find the dolls? And then you put them in these little scenes, and then that opens the key and you use the key to open this big cover, and you find that the three dolls you found, those labor children that they're representing, all died because of where they were working and stuff. And so the last child to survive, the fourth one was like, I can't do this anymore.

00:24:18:14 - 00:24:53:02
Gabe
And like they'd been they've been doing puzzles and treasure hunts to keep the other labor children happy and excited. But she was like, This is my last puzzle, my ideas. And she basically went and yeah, is no more. It was so sad. So that was how chapter one started for me. And I was like, Oh boy. And that was just a side that wasn't even the main, because the main was equally kind of as sad.

00:24:53:12 - 00:24:54:05
Gabe
You have the.

00:24:54:21 - 00:24:54:27
Lauren
The.

00:24:54:27 - 00:25:03:21
Gabe
Servant get kidnaped. So I should, I should say disclaimer major spoilers. I'm not afraid to talk about everything that happened.

00:25:04:01 - 00:25:25:11
Lauren
The game came out in 2007, so if you didn't play it. But okay, so did you. Sorry, did you have chapter one? What? The flower seller.

00:25:25:11 - 00:25:26:15
Gabe
The flower seller.

00:25:26:16 - 00:25:44:06
Lauren
Okay, so if you don't have the DLC chapter one for you starts out with Sherlock. It's just like, where's my newspaper and home or Yeah, and Watson. It's just like Sherlock. I have a.

00:25:44:12 - 00:25:59:05
Gabe
Wait. You mean a lady who sells flowers? Is that what you mean? I was thinking a seller like a CEO player for some reason, and I was like, What do you mean, a flower? So I know what you're talking about.

00:25:59:05 - 00:25:59:21
Lauren
Me.

00:26:00:10 - 00:26:00:24
Gabe
Go ahead.

00:26:01:01 - 00:26:02:17
Lauren
On it. Yeah. Or the bookseller.

00:26:02:26 - 00:26:03:06
Gabe
Yeah.

00:26:03:28 - 00:26:07:14
Lauren
Yeah. So you played that.

00:26:07:14 - 00:26:27:14
Gabe
That's part of the main story. Yeah. Yeah, I was. Yes, that's was that's what I've scene is there's that. But yeah, there's that part but then there's also the mist. But that part's not depressing. That's happy. I was going to get to that. That was like the one, the only happy thing in the stories that you could save is love life.

00:26:27:14 - 00:26:47:06
Gabe
You could save the life of the library. Dude, he's online. Brady's a bookseller and, like, match him with the love of his life. And, like, the dogs love each other and everything. I also assume that there's a possibility that you don't. It it kind of seems like. Yeah, at the end, like maybe you might not have helped him.

00:26:48:00 - 00:27:03:27
Gabe
Were you brutally honest with him? Because that's pretty much kind of what I chose. I felt like my response is very brutally honest and like I told him to like girl power and go to I was going to say to her and tell her always, yeah.

00:27:04:13 - 00:27:06:14
Lauren
Yeah. That was.

00:27:06:14 - 00:27:07:15
Gabe
Pretty much how that.

00:27:07:15 - 00:27:11:04
Lauren
Went. Yeah. And it worked. And then they are in love.

00:27:12:24 - 00:27:13:14
Gabe
And their dogs.

00:27:13:14 - 00:27:23:29
Lauren
Are in love. Oh, I forgot. What that I forgot the second I was just like, oh, here's the second dog now this is cute. I forgot it was Oh, that's.

00:27:26:12 - 00:27:30:13
Gabe
He got a dog to go see her at the dog park so their dogs would have.

00:27:30:15 - 00:27:37:20
Lauren
Escaped. Took me 11 hours, which I did over like four days. So, like, and I have no idea what happened at the beginning of this game.

00:27:38:26 - 00:28:02:16
Gabe
AS Okay, I do, I wrote it down so that that was that. Okay then chapter two So you start out. So what the whole point of the newspaper, like what you're talking about is it tells us that there is an explosion at the Port of London and it's saltpeter. I think that's how you say it. And that's used to make gunpowder, which is why it was a huge explosion.

00:28:02:26 - 00:28:32:28
Gabe
So in chapter two. Okay. All right. So this is what leads to chapter two is the Mary servant has been kidnaped and it seems like it was by a sailor, which is what takes us to the Port of London where the saltpeter accident happened. Okay. So this means. Oh, I'm so this is so tragic for you. Okay, so in chapter two, there's this haunted house thing, and it was a warehouse that people thought were haunted.

00:28:33:23 - 00:28:45:13
Gabe
And it was really these I don't really remember why, but there's this. Oh, there is. I do remember. There are these people in the warehouse and they made it seem hot. It was like this whole set up.

00:28:46:10 - 00:28:47:25
Lauren
For like just to make it seem like.

00:28:49:06 - 00:28:51:26
Gabe
Yeah, added a ton of side quests. It was like six side quests.

00:28:53:20 - 00:28:54:02
Lauren
Okay. Okay.

00:28:54:07 - 00:29:16:22
Gabe
That area that were necessary for kind of I actually enjoyed them. They're fun. I think there's two side quests. There's the house, there's this whole setup of like, like a grim reaper with coffins and it's thing and he's got like a side or maybe he doesn't and they use like a boot and like phosphorescent and made footprints, like going up the wall.

00:29:17:08 - 00:29:18:13
Lauren
On the ceiling.

00:29:18:14 - 00:29:23:17
Gabe
Like someone was walking there and just all this stuff and that was.

00:29:25:06 - 00:29:25:18
Lauren
I don't know.

00:29:25:21 - 00:29:30:23
Gabe
I don't know why I had to talk about it, but I just I feel like you would have enjoyed it and appreciated it. So I'm sorry.

00:29:30:23 - 00:29:34:06
Lauren
I love a little spookiness.

00:29:34:06 - 00:29:39:09
Gabe
Yeah. And then you're. Oh, because then you can tell the people either that it is haunted or it's not haunted.

00:29:39:09 - 00:29:40:03
Lauren
What did you say?

00:29:41:15 - 00:29:49:05
Gabe
I said it's not because I feel like that's true too, Sherlock. I was trying to be. I know, but me, I would have been like. Yeah, so haunted by.

00:29:49:18 - 00:29:57:27
Lauren
Wanted in there. Well, I love a haunted house sometimes.

00:29:58:14 - 00:30:06:22
Gabe
This was your very first playthrough. I try to choose and be like, if the character's like a really defined character, I try to be true to the character.

00:30:07:07 - 00:30:10:07
Lauren
Yeah, you can do a chaos run later. You just make.

00:30:10:12 - 00:30:35:23
Gabe
Exactly. I just do Chaos Run or maybe a more true to me character. Okay. But so chapter two, this is why chapter two is too depressing that to alter people. That's what I wrote down. There's dead people on the alter. Do you remember? You can talk about how we got to the alter in the first place, but that's where it inevitably ends up.

00:30:35:23 - 00:30:37:24
Gabe
You don't remember? Okay, so we meet.

00:30:40:10 - 00:30:50:12
Gabe
We essentially have to track down this one guy. In the end, it's this guy with like a metal eye and we're trying to track him down. Okay. And it leads to one of the warehouse guys go back. So you go ahead.

00:30:51:02 - 00:30:54:21
Lauren
Just so you all are tracking on this. So the servant.

00:30:54:21 - 00:31:17:27
Gabe
Wait before you do it, does you? Sorry, because I just realized another side quests. I remember in our sequence. Chapter two does you have to help people being killed by the water, by the stream water being poisoned. Okay. The other side quests you had to do is this company was like chemicals. You're ending up in the stream and it was coming down the stream.

00:31:18:15 - 00:31:34:21
Gabe
And these away were people. I don't know what they were doing, but they were they used the stream water to drink and it was killing them and killing the fish. And so you could, like, prove all this and then go hound this person and be like, I'm going to bring this to the authorities. If you don't take care of it.

00:31:35:04 - 00:31:39:01
Gabe
And they're like, okay, all right, now go for the main story.

00:31:40:06 - 00:32:15:00
Lauren
So the servant kidnaped by a sailor, so we go to the port and apparently go on a whole bunch of side quests, which I was not privy to. We find out basically that other people around the port have gone missing. And so we're trying to like track down the people who are responsible for this. And in that journey, we find out, as gay was saying that it's some guy with a metal eye.

00:32:16:12 - 00:32:33:00
Lauren
And so we find out what warehouse he's been taking people to. And all along the way, we've been seeing big paintings, big, spooky, spooky paintings of like, oh.

00:32:33:00 - 00:32:39:24
Gabe
Yeah, you can find KwaZulu paintings. Yeah, we have one Catholic painting and in each chapter I found one and chapter one, too.

00:32:39:26 - 00:32:40:04
Lauren
Mm hmm.

00:32:40:14 - 00:32:42:18
Gabe
Mm hmm. Yeah. Go ahead. Sorry. Yeah.

00:32:42:25 - 00:33:15:09
Lauren
And so you're finding, like, all Catholic marks or, like, the paintings or the coins or the. So you're just getting the sense of foreboding and spookiness and eeriness, and you go into this warehouse and are running around and all all the meanwhile, like this Sherlock Holmes game is full of puzzles. So you get to do all of these little puzzles to unlock doors or figure out how to open this chamber.

00:33:16:18 - 00:33:26:27
Lauren
So Sherlock is like, Hey, Watson, wait up at the top of the stairs for me. I'm going to go down and walks down the stairs. And then we have an episode.

00:33:27:24 - 00:33:54:00
Gabe
As The Descent to Madness is the classic Othello. If you ever know anything has a fool on it, you know you're just going to descend into madness string. And each of those episodes it is. It is. But those. Okay, I have to say, since you're also reviewing those parts of the game points of the game where some of my favorite like they I thought they were so well-done and so personally I don't really feel like this game really had puzzles.

00:33:54:09 - 00:34:23:07
Gabe
Like they are too straightforward. They didn't feel like puzzles to me. I was like, okay, I get what you're trying to go for, but like, if we can't figure out we need a freakin crank wheel to lift this up. I mean, you might feel that's totally valid, but those I felt more were like the most puzzles of the entire game and where you really had to sink into like, okay, how do I get through this?

00:34:23:07 - 00:34:27:14
Gabe
Because it's not logical. So it is logical, but not logical.

00:34:27:14 - 00:34:28:23
Lauren
At the scene. Three one.

00:34:30:06 - 00:34:31:05
Gabe
I don't know how to set the.

00:34:31:05 - 00:34:31:17
Lauren
Scene.

00:34:32:06 - 00:34:34:26
Gabe
So it just felt like a descent into madness.

00:34:34:27 - 00:34:36:01
Lauren
Is a descent into madness.

00:34:36:01 - 00:34:37:28
Gabe
You're rocks, floating rocks.

00:34:38:24 - 00:34:39:09
Lauren
So there's.

00:34:39:09 - 00:34:39:20
Gabe
I think.

00:34:39:24 - 00:35:07:08
Lauren
Green, misty light everywhere. You're in this true area full of all these wet rocks and there's just green light everywhere. And you are trying to find your way out. And so you're running this way and that trying to find all of the little nooks and crannies and pieces that you can push or walk into or fall off of to move you on to the next area.

00:35:07:22 - 00:35:13:28
Lauren
And so at one point, you have to like drop through a mouth, a big, creepy, scary mouth to get down to a low.

00:35:14:07 - 00:35:24:26
Gabe
Area the first time. The first when you literally jump off of the ledge just into the abyss. And then the second yeah. You jump into the mouth of the creature.

00:35:26:09 - 00:35:41:15
Lauren
Got about that. Yeah. So you jump in the mouth of this. It's, it's truly just like a mouth in a hole in the rocks and you just jump in. It's full of just all these teeth and you jump through it this circular.

00:35:41:15 - 00:35:41:21
Gabe
Yeah.

00:35:41:21 - 00:36:04:29
Lauren
And you jump through it, you find yourself down at this new part and you became. So there are kind of a couple different buttons you can press to see the game in different ways. There's something you press that kind of gives you, like, I don't know how to describe it, but a special.

00:36:04:29 - 00:36:29:04
Gabe
If you press Z, it highlights. Yeah, that's. Q So if you press Z, Z highlights nearby interactive all things within a certain radius and then your. Q right. It puts you in. It's not really a trance, but it's like a what did they call it? They called it like concentration is what they called that where he's just really super focused, I guess.

00:36:29:16 - 00:36:36:12
Gabe
And there's like little blurbs in it and you'll like look at it and it gives you like three words.

00:36:36:12 - 00:37:02:22
Lauren
So you look in a pocket or a pool of blood and it will say, Ooh, this is fresh and this is, you know, not enough to be from a lethal stabbing or something. So it kind of allows you to understand what Sherlock has to do, seeing while he's in this moment, looks at that that you can't see, just like with your normal eyes.

00:37:04:03 - 00:37:32:10
Lauren
And so you have to kind of cycle between this special concentration mode and normal mode to be able to do a lot of these puzzles. And so you have to like look at them with your normal eyes and then look at them with your concentration eyes and like go back and turn around and do all of these different things to see from a bunch of different perspectives how to solve these puzzles.

00:37:32:10 - 00:37:40:11
Lauren
And so that's just so interesting that it is not so straightforward, and it does just require you to use a lot of critical thinking.

00:37:42:29 - 00:38:00:18
Gabe
And sometimes a lot of that felt like you're doing the opposite of what it seemed like it was telling you to do or what you think you should do. I like the I like the concept of having to walk backwards into the door because like, if you're looking at the door, the door is like, oh, spooky, I'm going to stay closed.

00:38:01:06 - 00:38:06:29
Gabe
But if you're not looking at me, then I can open, because surely you're not going to walk backwards into me.

00:38:07:00 - 00:38:32:05
Lauren
Mm hmm. There's this one point where you had to just like you couldn't run at the door, you had to walk really, really slowly. Like I said, I could not. That part took me so long to figure out, because I could not figure out how to walk slow enough so that it wouldn't. Because you have to like press control or something as you walk to, like really slow.

00:38:32:05 - 00:38:32:21
Lauren
I don't know.

00:38:33:01 - 00:38:34:20
Gabe
I didn't have to do that. I just walk.

00:38:34:20 - 00:38:35:06
Lauren
Normally.

00:38:35:09 - 00:38:37:00
Gabe
I just didn't had shift, I didn't run.

00:38:37:21 - 00:38:43:03
Lauren
I tried walking normally and it was not working for me and it was making me crazy interesting.

00:38:43:06 - 00:38:58:07
Gabe
I didn't even know you could walk slower than how you walk. That's crazy. So that part did you find? Did you know you had to walk right away? Did you find the clue on the ground that he made a comment that someone was walking.

00:38:58:25 - 00:39:09:10
Lauren
Taking really small steps? Yeah, kind of like tiptoeing along. Boop, boop, boop. Hmm.

00:39:09:10 - 00:39:10:20
Gabe
That's really interesting.

00:39:12:00 - 00:39:29:10
Lauren
I mean, I think I had to press control. I don't remember. It just. It took me forever because I could not figure out how to walk slowly and I like. I wasn't sure conceptually what I had to do, but I just couldn't figure out how to do it. Yeah, how to do it.

00:39:30:03 - 00:39:39:22
Gabe
I was surprised you said it took you 11 hours because it took me 11 to 12 hours and I had all the extra side quests and I felt like I was slow.

00:39:39:23 - 00:39:41:09
Lauren
That's how long I was playing.

00:39:41:11 - 00:39:42:20
Gabe
By saying that you were slow.

00:39:42:21 - 00:39:58:02
Lauren
I know I walked away from it at multiple times and it was still going to like do things in my house. So I don't I don't think I was actively playing that whole time, but that's how much gameplay time my steam shows.

00:39:58:07 - 00:40:09:15
Gabe
Yeah, that's fair. Well, when you make it through the descent to madness and a Watson comes and knocks you out of it, you find a dead man on the altar.

00:40:09:23 - 00:40:16:28
Lauren
But I was is never the same. After that descent to madness.

00:40:16:28 - 00:40:28:02
Gabe
That's true. Yeah, that's true. Although it kind of seemed like stuff was maybe starting in chapter one. Like you seemed not. Oh, maybe.

00:40:28:02 - 00:40:28:29
Lauren
Not. I don't know.

00:40:29:15 - 00:40:31:27
Gabe
But that's true. Yeah, he was not the same after that.

00:40:32:12 - 00:40:33:03
Lauren
Since I'm talking.

00:40:33:03 - 00:40:40:03
Gabe
About the depressing stuff. That's the depressing thing about you find a dead body and like all this blood, actually, you find multiple.

00:40:40:03 - 00:40:40:24
Lauren
Dead bodies.

00:40:42:09 - 00:40:43:25
Gabe
And you find the one on the altar and the.

00:40:43:25 - 00:40:48:06
Lauren
One on the altar. I don't think you find any other body. Seven ounces packaged up.

00:40:49:11 - 00:40:54:11
Gabe
Oh yeah. Yeah, that's right. You find that the yeah. That everyone's been packaged and shipped somewhere.

00:40:54:11 - 00:40:59:01
Lauren
And like they're too. So they weren't coffins, they were just wooden shipping containers.

00:41:00:10 - 00:41:17:22
Gabe
Yeah, but there was blood everywhere. So I, there is, you know, at the very least, hints of terrible things happening. Oh, but I did think they had a spotlight on the doves, because if you went down into the little cubby, there is all these photos which would be like maybe the people they're scouting out, but let's be real.

00:41:17:22 - 00:41:19:06
Gabe
They are all the game makers.

00:41:19:12 - 00:41:22:03
Lauren
Mm hmm.

00:41:22:03 - 00:41:29:02
Gabe
Okay, so from that research are eels was full of eels?

00:41:29:07 - 00:41:36:29
Lauren
Yeah. His stomach. Do you not remember the Eels? Just like emerging from his stomach.

00:41:36:29 - 00:41:38:00
Gabe
I didn't have that happen.

00:41:38:00 - 00:41:44:21
Lauren
I don't think I'm lucky. Anyway, he was a sacrifice.

00:41:44:21 - 00:41:57:21
Gabe
No, maybe we did know. Maybe we. Maybe we did. I don't know. All I know is I touch the capsule. The statue three times because it kept saying something different, and then it was pissed off and didn't want me to touch it anymore.

00:41:57:27 - 00:42:03:27
Lauren
I was like, my bad bro, but I did not touch the statue.

00:42:05:07 - 00:42:05:21
Gabe
Why not?

00:42:05:22 - 00:42:13:24
Lauren
Or maybe I did probably want to just because it probably told me to touch it. But I did not.

00:42:14:01 - 00:42:32:15
Gabe
I didn't know. It doesn't tell you to touch it. Oh, I just wanted to touch everything and I promise. Yeah, I just touched on everything that was intractable. I want to stroke it. Whose tentacle? Anyways, we basically figure out that the people are being shipped to Edelweiss and Switzerland. There's an asylum.

00:42:33:03 - 00:42:34:27
Lauren
Edelweiss institute.

00:42:36:09 - 00:43:07:13
Gabe
Yeah. Why there? I still don't really understand. I kind of struggled to follow the main story. Like, I don't understand how we went from London to Switzer Island to New Orleans back to London. So I will get to all of the reasons, you know, but like why Switzerland? Like, I get she was a psycho lady. Sorry. You can set the scene.

00:43:07:13 - 00:43:07:29
Gabe
I'm sorry.

00:43:09:02 - 00:43:19:06
Lauren
Well, we know to go to Switzerland because we find the flag and we find know.

00:43:19:06 - 00:43:30:01
Gabe
I know, I know why. We knew to go there. What I don't understand is the for the bad guys perspective. That's what I mean. Why were they like, let's send these bodies.

00:43:30:13 - 00:43:30:16
Lauren
To.

00:43:31:03 - 00:43:34:20
Gabe
To Switzerland and then we need them in New Orleans?

00:43:35:14 - 00:43:37:23
Lauren
Oh, no, they they don't need them. We're getting this.

00:43:38:16 - 00:43:41:19
Gabe
No, we go to New Orleans because of the jams. Is that why we go there?

00:43:42:01 - 00:43:47:21
Lauren
The Opals. And that's where the money for the institute comes from.

00:43:49:07 - 00:44:17:18
Gabe
Right? That's right. Oh, so. Okay, so I think I get it. So they send the bodies to Switzerland, they do the weird, I don't even know crap to them which like turns them into the like weird, potentially confused slaves and then they send them back to London and the open and the money was just that, that's what's funding them.

00:44:17:18 - 00:44:24:09
Gabe
But I think they are also using the Opals in the end a chapter thing. Right. Is that is that what is going on.

00:44:26:01 - 00:44:45:02
Lauren
Yes. Because you need or obsidian is obsidian. Yeah. Because you use those as part of like the knives and whatever to see.

00:44:45:02 - 00:44:59:12
Gabe
Now you're confused too. I'm sorry if I confused you, but it's very confusing how it all fits together. And I like collected everything and read everything, and I was so I just couldn't follow.

00:45:00:14 - 00:45:08:29
Lauren
Okay, so we're at the asylum. Let's just try to talk through it. Okay?

00:45:08:29 - 00:45:09:27
Gabe
We're at this town.

00:45:10:20 - 00:45:18:24
Lauren
We're at the asylum, and we know the asylum is spooky, scary. And so.

00:45:18:24 - 00:45:57:12
Gabe
Holmes Do you want to know the side quests there before you do the main quests? Do you want to know what it was? Okay. I think it's based off a real thing or something. That's what Wolf was telling me. It is. It's called five dead frogs in the Walls. And so you find these five poems about someone who was killing their patients, and they talk about how they were killing them and they were calling them frogs and it was something like, this is what separates a human from a frog, implying they were the human and the patients were frogs or you know what I mean?

00:45:57:12 - 00:46:23:12
Gabe
Like the patients weren't human and that the humans were superior. And it's all these weird poems about how they killed them and where they hid the body. And it's like five places in that lower asylum section that Sherlock is in, and they're like hidden in the walls. And so you're going to hunt for these five bodies, and then you're like, Okay, so.

00:46:24:00 - 00:46:29:08
Lauren
I found them men and I'm anyways.

00:46:30:15 - 00:46:41:21
Gabe
I feel like I have to share this with you since you don't know what they were, but they're kind of like all traumatizing, all right, go on to the main story.

00:46:41:21 - 00:47:21:29
Lauren
I mean, the asylum is horrific, truly. So Watson gets sent in to pose as just a doctor who's just interested in what's going on. And then he didn't tell or Holmes didn't tell Watson that he was also going to go in pretending to be a man who they know is dead. And so Watson, like, reacts strongly when Holmes walks in and the woman in charge of the asylum is just like, Hmm, noted, suspicious and don't be suspicious.

00:47:22:10 - 00:47:52:27
Lauren
Then basically Watson gets to go off and, like, be a doctor with her and Holmes. They taken to kind of a a room where they can look at him and then put like a serum in him and knock him out and he wakes up and he's in a cell. So he kind of gets captured and it's like, we'll deal with this later.

00:47:54:07 - 00:48:51:18
Lauren
And then he escapes from his cell and is trying to escape upstairs. But there are guards everywhere. And so he's having to talk to prisoners and create a blow. Art with a syringe to knock out guards and then find out where all of the boxes filled with people that came over from London, he finds where they were picked up and then activities happen where Watson gets him keys and whatnot, and Holmes is able to go down and find out where the boxes of people were unloaded and then gets to go into this other creepy cavern area where we can see that the people have been like locked up at desks and forced to learn things

00:48:51:18 - 00:48:57:29
Lauren
where they had been experimented on, whether some had been killed, just like horrific.

00:48:58:01 - 00:49:17:12
Gabe
The main thing, though, the main thing that was done to them that I think was like the huge thing was they were put in a chair, I think, and four and four still listen to this is is spoken in the eldritch language, which is, of course, Hulu. And it was like a chant. And I think that that's what brainwashed.

00:49:17:12 - 00:49:17:22
Lauren
Them.

00:49:18:06 - 00:49:21:24
Gabe
And what inevitably why they're like at the end.

00:49:22:02 - 00:49:23:06
Lauren
Of the world.

00:49:23:11 - 00:49:24:07
Gabe
Doing their chant.

00:49:24:08 - 00:49:49:04
Lauren
Well, that and the Edelweiss Institute, the woman who runs it, her whole thing is memory. So she likes to experiment with patients on basically removing traumatic memories from their lives. But she doesn't only remove traumatic memories. She also removes memories of things they don't want to know. Like she took over she.

00:49:49:04 - 00:49:50:21
Gabe
Does in a very unethical way.

00:49:50:21 - 00:50:02:11
Lauren
Yeah, she took over the institute from somebody who wasn't a fan of what she expected to do and took his memory away and just kept him up as just any other prisoner.

00:50:03:28 - 00:50:12:18
Gabe
By took his memory away. She did two brain surgeries on him and cut out sections of his brain.

00:50:12:18 - 00:50:12:29
Lauren
Well.

00:50:13:18 - 00:50:17:21
Gabe
I mean, as I'm just saying that for men, that was really.

00:50:18:15 - 00:50:19:12
Lauren
Awful, horrible.

00:50:19:15 - 00:50:20:19
Gabe
And made me so sad.

00:50:20:19 - 00:50:43:16
Lauren
That shocked me because they show you like pictures of Dr. Becker and then later, you mean a prisoner and Watson, like does things and figures out that he is Doctor Becker. That shocked me because I was not paying attention to those pictures. So and he was just like your doctor. Becker I was like, What? What's that?

00:50:43:27 - 00:51:09:18
Gabe
Well, I think he looked quite a bit different because, I mean, he was bald. He had two massive head scars and I mean, he didn't look great. He was definitely not thriving. He was not I don't even know if you could say surviving because he didn't he was just not aware of anything. He could talk to you for, like, a minute, and then he forgot everything.

00:51:11:03 - 00:51:14:27
Lauren
Yeah, but that's as much as I can.

00:51:14:27 - 00:51:26:25
Gabe
I guess it's surviving. He wasn't living well. Okay. All right. We're an hour, and so home anyway.

00:51:26:25 - 00:52:00:20
Lauren
So Holmes finds out where all of the men were hidden and tortured, and they're all gone. So now he's trying to figure out, okay, where do we go next? He's been finding evidence of who's been paying this woman to experiment and again, brainwash all of these people, like where the money's coming from. So we follow the money and we're going off to New Orleans.

00:52:00:20 - 00:52:07:00
Gabe
I will say sorry. The big thing that really got me about chapter three. Did you have to deal with Heidi and Gerta?

00:52:08:21 - 00:52:09:01
Lauren
Yeah.

00:52:09:11 - 00:52:30:20
Gabe
The lady with the talking doll. Okay, so genuinely. Okay, so there's this, like, crazy lady, and she had a doll. And at first it seemed like she was trying to do ventriloquism. Like, essentially that's what it would be, is ventriloquism. So it would seem like the doll was talking, but she was probably the one talking. However, it gets a little it gets a little crazy.

00:52:30:20 - 00:52:39:13
Gabe
A little, little psycho. And both of them are talking at the same time. And Heidi would definitely sound demonic. And honestly, I would have fully believe.

00:52:39:18 - 00:52:41:00
Lauren
She was possessed.

00:52:41:00 - 00:52:58:14
Gabe
By demon the doll. But to be completely honest with you, and when you give her the nails and her father's to use the nails as hair on the doll, I was deceased. I was done. I just I had to bring them up. I made note of it because I was so disturbed.

00:52:58:16 - 00:53:09:00
Lauren
It's truly the most terrifying doll. And yeah, and you have to, like, talk to it. And she just it's so terrifying.

00:53:09:11 - 00:53:28:17
Gabe
And then it's just like if you don't basically like if you don't entertain me enough, I might kill you. And like, honestly, I kind of believed it. Even though she was locked behind the cell door, I totally, fully believe that if I did not entertain her enough, this doll would try and kill me. Truly, for me, the most scary part of the whole game.

00:53:29:21 - 00:53:31:02
Gabe
Freaky is part of the whole game.

00:53:31:02 - 00:53:56:25
Lauren
Totally. That's all so scary. And then at the end of the scene, when Holmes comes back up into the main asylum, we come up and the evil lady who's been running the institute has been murdered. There is a pen all the way through her eye poking into her brain, and the doll is on the desk.

00:53:56:25 - 00:53:58:15
Gabe
So, yeah, so.

00:53:59:01 - 00:54:07:29
Lauren
And the doll murdered her. And then Gerda ran. Maybe Kurt is the one possessed.

00:54:08:17 - 00:54:10:14
Gabe
All I know is Gerda.

00:54:10:15 - 00:54:24:29
Lauren
Because Gerda. And then we saw that Gerda had, like, escaped or, like, was on the loose or something like that. The doll was on the desk, the woman was murdered, and we just leave. We don't. We are no.

00:54:25:02 - 00:54:25:28
Gabe
Ozone, so.

00:54:26:14 - 00:54:42:28
Lauren
We do not have, like, any solving that we have to do in our little mind palace. There is not like we truly just get to be like dolls on the desk. The woman's been murdered. Anyway, we're going to go follow the money and go to New Orleans. And we did.

00:54:42:28 - 00:55:13:24
Gabe
Yes, right. So we go to New Orleans following the money. Don't know where my notes are. My notes are voodoo. Question mark and Lucy and Champagne. Those are both characters, right? I know Lucy was. Oh, yeah. Champagne. Yeah. Okay. Okay. The sequesters wanted posters. You had to hunt down ten wanted posters, which were based off of, I think actual like bad guys because I think I recognized a couple of them so fun that were pretty funny.

00:55:15:18 - 00:55:17:12
Gabe
But I wrote down corrupt sheriff.

00:55:17:12 - 00:55:40:03
Lauren
And husband dying. Yeah, the sheriff. Yeah. So we show up to New Orleans. There's a corrupt sheriff, and he does not want us in town because he knows why we're there. No, there we go to the house where we find out that the gemstones that we knew the sale of the gemstones were funding the asylum.

00:55:40:09 - 00:55:40:23
Gabe
Auction.

00:55:40:23 - 00:56:04:22
Lauren
House. Yeah. So we find out from the auction house who owned the jewels, and we go to that house and it's a murder house. Like they're dead bodies. Go ahead. Oh, also, actually, the main thing in chapter four that I want to talk about is just like when we're traveling to New Orleans, Sherlock reveals, that his mother was treated in the asylum and it, like, broke her mind.

00:56:04:24 - 00:56:09:18
Lauren
Yeah, it's like, yeah, you're.

00:56:09:18 - 00:56:22:24
Gabe
Yeah. Was so tragic. It's so scary. How, like, cruel people. People are cruel. I don't know. Asylums just make me so sad. I can't think about.

00:56:22:24 - 00:56:27:15
Lauren
It for too long. Okay, so now chapter five. We're in the murder house.

00:56:27:15 - 00:56:39:23
Gabe
Murder mansion. Before you see the murder mansion, though, you find four fingers have been sliced off and are just lying on the ground. I did not find that. I find.

00:56:39:23 - 00:56:40:10
Lauren
Most.

00:56:42:19 - 00:56:45:00
Gabe
I well, they were and a raccoon.

00:56:46:00 - 00:56:46:14
Lauren
Ate.

00:56:46:14 - 00:57:01:00
Gabe
The ring off. What are the figures? And you need to go find or the raccoon is to get the ring to up. Oh you can't make those. Sure. I'm sorry. Go ahead.

00:57:01:19 - 00:57:29:16
Lauren
So you get to the mansion, you walk in, you find well in the stable, the mansion, you find a horse that's severely dehydrated and you can go and give it water and like save it. So that was good. But yes, you walk in the house, you find servants killed. You have to like reconstruct this whole scene and you find out that a servant boy, he's the entire reason or one of the main reasons why you're in this house in the first place.

00:57:31:01 - 00:57:48:02
Lauren
He saw the murders happening and just hid in the room and it had been in the room of this house with murdered people in it for like four days without food, water, not leaving the room, like, oh, horrific anyway. But so the owner of this I.

00:57:49:11 - 00:57:55:04
Gabe
This is probably gross of me but I was like the room doesn't look like he's been stuck in here for five days without.

00:57:55:04 - 00:57:56:27
Lauren
Food, water or a bathroom.

00:57:56:27 - 00:58:00:23
Gabe
Just saying, where did he poop? I'm just saying.

00:58:00:27 - 00:58:26:01
Lauren
Enough. Fair enough. That's all. So the owner of this house is a wealthy man. And yes, like I've said, we we have to track him because he's not one of the murdered people. And so you find that you find four of his fingers. You have to go find a ring to unlock various safes and whatever in the house to find out, like where he went.

00:58:27:12 - 00:58:44:09
Lauren
There's a nice prostitute lady who he loves. And then you have to like that's Lucy, you see, and get her involved. And then there's this woman named Champagne and she gets involved and she gives you a boat. So then you chapter go.

00:58:44:13 - 00:58:45:09
Gabe
By, you.

00:58:45:09 - 00:58:58:15
Lauren
Go to the bayou and have to, like, paddle through, do a lot of rowing. Watson's back must be ripped because he was just doing rocking and sailing and there were gators everywhere.

00:58:58:15 - 00:59:06:05
Gabe
Realistically, it was probably like like 4 hours of rowing. Like it was actually recorded. It was how much.

00:59:06:18 - 00:59:07:06
Lauren
They.

00:59:07:11 - 00:59:20:00
Gabe
Did. Okay. When you got to the Gators, did you let the Gators you because I was so sick of rowing, I was like, just eat me, just eat me. And I wrote into the gators to be eaten. I just was so done. Yes.

00:59:20:00 - 00:59:36:24
Lauren
Sorry. No, but that part was wild because the gators were hungry. And so you had to like jump out of the boat and shoot down hanging bodies that were just like hanging sacks on a tree. You should. You had to shoot them down so the gators would, like, go.

00:59:36:29 - 00:59:43:06
Gabe
You were having sex with me. They were hanging. They're just naked. They're just.

00:59:43:10 - 00:59:43:27
Lauren
Just people.

00:59:43:27 - 00:59:44:15
Gabe
Bodies, just.

00:59:44:15 - 00:59:46:02
Lauren
People hanging from trees.

00:59:47:14 - 00:59:59:01
Gabe
It's so horrific. It's so grotesque. I, I was totally not prepared for this. Like, I feel like I needed a bit of a warning at the beginning of this entire game.

00:59:59:05 - 00:59:59:26
Lauren
About what.

01:00:00:00 - 01:00:04:11
Gabe
Ohio was going to be. It was just evil vibes.

01:00:04:24 - 01:00:06:06
Lauren
Like the whole way, you know.

01:00:06:06 - 01:00:07:11
Gabe
It really was.

01:00:07:12 - 01:00:17:08
Lauren
Like as soon as I walked into the murder house, I was like, okay, this is very Resident Evil seven. Yeah, it says resident.

01:00:17:08 - 01:00:39:18
Gabe
Yeah, dude. I felt that actually when I walked in the house enforcing the dead bodies, I was like, This is giving me those vibes. Yes, yes. I so see that. I will say as much as ridiculous as there was, I felt like that was maybe not elegantly done, but like I felt like it was a really well done.

01:00:39:18 - 01:00:42:27
Gabe
I don't know what you should call it, chain of events. I don't know.

01:00:43:00 - 01:01:06:05
Lauren
Whatever that puts you in a position that was telling you to follow. First, the daylilies, the lilies. But what were they called? They were the white something. They were death's messengers. So. Oh, that's.

01:01:06:24 - 01:01:08:27
Gabe
What they were calling them. Not the real thing.

01:01:08:27 - 01:01:19:06
Lauren
Yeah. So we had to follow lilies and then fire torches. Torches and then crows and whatever. Anyway, so you end up at this.

01:01:19:06 - 01:01:25:16
Gabe
You had to follow crows honestly at the end. In part of that scene, I have no idea how I finally ended.

01:01:25:16 - 01:01:25:23
Lauren
Up.

01:01:26:12 - 01:01:29:19
Gabe
Where, but I did make it to where I needed to be. Yeah.

01:01:30:20 - 01:01:31:01
Lauren
That's good.

01:01:32:19 - 01:01:32:27
Gabe
Yeah.

01:01:32:28 - 01:01:44:29
Lauren
Anyways, sorry, go ahead. But you get to this big bonfire where you have to again figure out the chain of events and figure out.

01:01:44:29 - 01:01:58:06
Gabe
There's people chained to like Frosties, not chained, but tied them down. And honestly, I think most of them had been like a pig, where when you drain a pig's blood, you hanging upside down.

01:01:58:10 - 01:02:16:12
Lauren
There's a lot of blood, sacrifice happening. MM Yeah. And so you get to the Stone Room. Holmes has another episode where we go further into our little madness thing, where we go in the Green Stone area and get to do more puzzles.

01:02:17:07 - 01:02:20:01
Gabe
And yes.

01:02:20:01 - 01:02:44:18
Lauren
Then we find the rich guy whose fingers had been chopped off. We rescue him, bring him to safety and return home. But in that room we find some books and documents that were for the rituals that were happening. And we use them. Take them back to the bookseller that we met at the beginning to translate.

01:02:44:21 - 01:02:49:05
Gabe
I made a note for that chapter. Still haven't found Mary.

01:02:50:13 - 01:02:50:17
Lauren
The.

01:02:50:18 - 01:02:52:03
Gabe
Servant for chapter one.

01:02:52:14 - 01:02:59:13
Lauren
I was like, he was the one that Sherlock was talking to that was hanging upside down the cross, that Sherlock was talking.

01:02:59:13 - 01:03:09:01
Gabe
No, no, no, no. That was. Oh, is that who that was supposed to be? I thought that was supposed to be the the guy who had his fingers cut off.

01:03:09:27 - 01:03:17:01
Lauren
The guy whose fingers were cut off were the ones the one that Watson say.

01:03:17:02 - 01:03:22:23
Gabe
Right? Was he supposed to be Arneson? No, Arneson is missing.

01:03:22:23 - 01:03:23:24
Lauren
So he said.

01:03:23:28 - 01:03:25:29
Gabe
Is that who that was supposed to be?

01:03:26:08 - 01:03:30:06
Lauren
That's what I thought.

01:03:30:06 - 01:03:42:02
Gabe
Oh well that was one of my complaints was that we never found the Mary guy. We never got resolution to that. But I guess maybe we did.

01:03:42:02 - 01:03:42:10
Lauren
Mm.

01:03:42:20 - 01:03:52:00
Gabe
Yeah, I guess that's the only person he could really have been. I'm shocked by that. Okay, continue. I'm sorry.

01:03:52:00 - 01:04:20:08
Lauren
That was my interpretation of events. Anyway, so we save Mr. Arneson, we bring him back to his ladylove, we go back to London and we show the bookseller, this book. BARNES Yeah. And so he starts reading through and he starts to get like a little excited about Cthulhu. And we're like, Did you leave the book with him or do you take it?

01:04:20:19 - 01:04:20:27
Lauren
Yeah.

01:04:21:09 - 01:04:28:14
Gabe
Oh, I totally left it with him because I knew he was already descending into the madness and I was like.

01:04:30:00 - 01:04:32:14
Lauren
Here you go back and you're welcome.

01:04:32:14 - 01:04:51:03
Gabe
Kousoulou Oh, nothing happened, but you totally knows that he definitely like the book. Okay, obviously it's never really fully confirmed if they're supernatural in the game or not, but I think it would be safe to say that that book had demons inside of it.

01:04:51:23 - 01:04:52:12
Lauren
For a book.

01:04:53:03 - 01:05:08:03
Gabe
I'll just call that had demons inside of it. And they were like like it was compelling you to read the book and it probably brainwashes you. And I was like, You know what, brother? We all float down here.

01:05:09:27 - 01:05:17:08
Lauren
To get away from you. So it's like, now you don't need this, but you do get to do a sign list in this.

01:05:17:24 - 01:05:18:07
Gabe
Psych.

01:05:18:09 - 01:05:41:21
Lauren
Chapter because you run into Mycroft and Watson does this whole hissy fit with Mycroft because he's just like, You work for the government. The government sends people to die in wars, just like has this whole thing going on. And Mycroft is like, Hey, Sherlock is really not doing well. Do you want to go and check on this informant that I have?

01:05:42:29 - 01:05:59:13
Lauren
And so you do. And he's been like watching the embassy. You find his body and he has been watching the embassy. And there's a whole list of notes written about like, this person has come and gone, this person. And then there's an m written at the bottom of the sheet.

01:06:00:08 - 01:06:02:02
Gabe
And I thought, MORIARTY.

01:06:02:02 - 01:06:02:26
Lauren
That's what I figured.

01:06:02:26 - 01:06:11:16
Gabe
But then actor confronted Mycroft and the way he was sketchy about it, I was like, Is this supposed to somehow stand for Mycroft? But that would make no sense. Like, I still think I.

01:06:11:16 - 01:06:46:17
Lauren
Think Moriarty especially. Yeah, well we'll talk about in a second but the there's a reference later to the final problem is drawing near the cult leader mentions to Holmes that the final problem's drawing near and the final problem is the Sherlock Holmes story where Moriarty and Sherlock Holmes go over the waterfall. Oh.

01:06:47:17 - 01:06:48:18
Gabe
I forgot.

01:06:48:18 - 01:07:01:03
Lauren
About. So that was my like this for Moriarty. And then the final problem draws near. The two of those combined made me go, okay, so we're setting up for the last game.

01:07:01:11 - 01:07:03:25
Gabe
For the next game. Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

01:07:04:04 - 01:07:06:00
Lauren
Yeah.

01:07:06:00 - 01:07:12:01
Gabe
Yeah, I liked, I actually liked that I felt like that I was like, okay, so this is the integer teaser for the next game.

01:07:12:01 - 01:07:12:19
Lauren
Got it.

01:07:13:26 - 01:07:14:27
Gabe
I did appreciate.

01:07:14:27 - 01:07:26:03
Lauren
That. Yeah. So chapter seven, we're just back in London. Watson is running around getting answers to things and figuring out where who the cult leader is and where.

01:07:26:03 - 01:07:28:22
Gabe
They're at and where are the sacrifices happening.

01:07:28:22 - 01:07:37:17
Lauren
So that we can go stop them. So chapter eight, then it and.

01:07:37:28 - 01:07:39:28
Gabe
Because we haven't been enough place and.

01:07:39:28 - 01:07:51:09
Lauren
Also we're in a boat, we're rowing our boat to Scotland. I know we don't got to like the of it is rowing our boat to Scotland and I was like what is Watson do Watson is a.

01:07:51:09 - 01:08:01:08
Gabe
Rib to my god almighty because here's the thing, right? I think isn't it, Cannon that like Watson has an issue with one of his legs.

01:08:01:13 - 01:08:01:27
Lauren
Yes.

01:08:01:27 - 01:08:07:29
Gabe
So he just skips like day in a soul leader's arm. And that was nice. That was solely arm and back day.

01:08:07:29 - 01:08:14:09
Lauren
And that was why he could do all this.

01:08:14:09 - 01:08:24:02
Gabe
I think they probably wrote most of the way, though, because I don't know how they would. Well, it was only to a lighthouse.

01:08:25:01 - 01:08:25:25
Lauren
So hopefully they.

01:08:26:11 - 01:08:27:29
Gabe
Did throw the entire away.

01:08:28:22 - 01:08:29:19
Lauren
Nearby.

01:08:29:21 - 01:08:35:21
Gabe
No, they probably rode entire way from the mainland of wherever in Scotland. To the boathouse. To the lighthouse.

01:08:35:21 - 01:08:50:23
Lauren
Yeah, bless them. Anyway, so we show up at this White House. There is a servant who has fallen to or has killed himself. Don't know. Yes. No.

01:08:50:28 - 01:08:55:18
Gabe
Well, it's. It's the guy from. From Chapter five.

01:08:55:18 - 01:08:58:22
Lauren
Who had chopped off it. The four fingers.

01:08:59:11 - 01:09:12:24
Gabe
Yes. He had gone crazy. He'd gone descended into madness. And you find the letter like one of his notes, basically saying that he doesn't remember killing all those people and doing all that, like that's like a black spot in his memory.

01:09:13:09 - 01:09:14:11
Lauren
And see that's why.

01:09:14:16 - 01:09:16:18
Gabe
Think it's implied that like who took over.

01:09:17:01 - 01:09:31:16
Lauren
Was involved with that. Yeah and that's what I think the idyls they're injecting people at this memory stuff that will remove their memories and so just kind of like keep giving people the memory stuff.

01:09:31:16 - 01:09:40:00
Gabe
Wait, they're injecting people? I thought she was removing memories by cutting out parts of their of their brain. I didn't realize that was like.

01:09:40:00 - 01:09:58:12
Lauren
Part of the experimentation of like finding out which part of their brain has those kind of memories. And then from there, figuring out how to like target those areas, particularly. Mm. Gotcha, gotcha. That was my understanding of what was going on. But we do.

01:09:58:12 - 01:10:02:10
Gabe
I thought he just had too many capsular tentacles in his brain and so he was just.

01:10:02:10 - 01:10:19:12
Lauren
Done for also possible a in his cavern which is dark. You spend time like running through the cavern calling for homes and seeing his little.

01:10:19:12 - 01:10:22:13
Gabe
Oh, it's like echolocation. Yeah, yeah.

01:10:22:15 - 01:10:35:12
Lauren
Sound circles coming at you. And then you have to, like, go veering. And then you are in this, these two chambers where, like, you have to do things and then Watson does things, and then Holmes does things, and then Watson does things and.

01:10:37:16 - 01:10:53:14
Gabe
Did you explore the caverns before that part? Morbid curiosity of me really wanted to explore all the bit of the Cavern area, but I was like, I probably shouldn't do that. So I didn't do it. But if I ever go back for a second playthrough, I was like, Is it all right?

01:10:53:14 - 01:11:18:26
Lauren
What happens or does it go, Yeah, one of the wrong ones just because like I'm out of the game and there was never anything like what I like on that. It was, you know, there'd be like a pedestal, the skull on it or a pedestal with something up. So, like, there wasn't like I didn't find anything exciting, but dang, there were things that so it was tragic.

01:11:20:18 - 01:11:39:24
Gabe
I was like, I was super guesser. I was like, what if I missed something not going through these? This also feels like a moment where maybe I shouldn't. But then the part you were talking about after that, where you're switching back and forth, it gave me such a portal to co-op vibes and I was like, I love this, except you're both people.

01:11:39:24 - 01:11:43:25
Gabe
You don't have to rely on another idiot.

01:11:43:25 - 01:11:45:16
Lauren
So you have the power.

01:11:45:20 - 01:12:04:24
Gabe
It's just, it's just your two brain cells instead of your brain cells in someone else's. And I thought that was probably one of my oh, if it's tied up there with that because the descent into madness puzzles like those for what I would truly call the puzzles of the game, everything else was kind.

01:12:04:24 - 01:12:05:01
Lauren
Of.

01:12:07:03 - 01:12:09:09
Gabe
Lackluster for me. It was like, okay.

01:12:10:02 - 01:12:39:21
Lauren
And so after we solve all the little puzzles in the dark and we kind of escape into the lighthouse itself, we find that we find all of these people who have like sacks over their heads and they're just kind of zombies at that point. And we find out that there are like big gemstone obelisks. Yeah.

01:12:40:02 - 01:12:42:20
Gabe
There obelisks is out there in gemstone.

01:12:42:25 - 01:12:43:08
Lauren
Okay.

01:12:43:10 - 01:12:43:27
Gabe
Jade.

01:12:43:27 - 01:12:45:08
Lauren
Yeah. And you have to look.

01:12:45:09 - 01:12:50:00
Gabe
They looked like jade and phosphorescent goo from a ghost had a baby.

01:12:50:11 - 01:13:02:09
Lauren
Mm hmm. Yeah. It's like they're lava, so you have to, like, turn these special lights on them, and then you can stab them within a set.

01:13:02:17 - 01:13:05:03
Gabe
It's obsidian, and.

01:13:05:10 - 01:13:40:25
Lauren
Now you have to destroy them. And then all the zombies are kind of like what's going on? Because it kind of releases them from their moth nests. They're kind of moths. They're just puttering around the lights and then you go up and and now you're surrounded by them. All these people gunning with gunny sacks over their heads who are jumping to their death and Watson is running around trying to get rid of all these gemstones to like turn off the summoning and horns is up top to save.

01:13:42:23 - 01:14:03:05
Gabe
For that part when you're Watson trying to destroy the gemstones. I was so sick and tired of doing the stupid cuties that weren't even like, necessarily good to tease. I was like, as the whole point of this, to add length to your games of people who aren't used to doing this shit mess up, they just have to keep doing it.

01:14:04:10 - 01:14:24:29
Gabe
I think I maybe messed up once, but I don't even know if I did mess up. Cooties were like whatever to me. But I was so like, it's over because at first you have two cuties, then they're like three, and then they're like four. But it's like multiple times because you have to go back and forth between and especially like if you're trying to figure out what to do, then you're doing it that much more.

01:14:24:29 - 01:14:48:27
Gabe
And I was like, If you want to make us do it the first time, okay, sure. I respect and understand that. But if I had to do it every time I go through there, it just got old and I was like, it just feels wasted. Like them. The mechanic isn't even fun and interesting anymore. It's just like, GROSS Why do I have to do this anyways.

01:14:49:23 - 01:14:50:11
Lauren
Anyways.

01:14:50:11 - 01:14:50:29
Gabe
Sherlock's up.

01:14:50:29 - 01:15:17:14
Lauren
Top, so Sherlock's up top talking to the cult leader. Oh, it's very spooky. So the cult leader is very like we're calling Catholic. This will be a good time. Sherlock is just trying to figure out what's going on. Try to figure out, like, did you track me? What? Like, logically trying to figure out why he's having visions, why he's descending into madness like this.

01:15:17:28 - 01:15:26:09
Lauren
And the guy is saying, we've stood here before, Holmes, another you, another me. And so it's kind of this concept that.

01:15:26:09 - 01:15:27:09
Gabe
Like really powerful.

01:15:27:09 - 01:15:42:24
Lauren
For this will this happens. And like there are many different timelines where the two of them are standing next to each other summoning this together. And so it was just a really.

01:15:43:06 - 01:16:08:16
Gabe
I felt like I felt like that part could be taken figuratively or literally. So it could maybe exact like reincarnations of them or them, or it could just be taken figuratively in the sense that there's always someone coming out trying to stop it and there's always someone trying to do it, you know what I mean? Like like they're more of like the representation of whoever that person was, you know?

01:16:08:21 - 01:16:12:14
Gabe
Does that make sense? What I'm saying?

01:16:12:14 - 01:16:13:12
Lauren
So it's not that.

01:16:13:16 - 01:16:14:13
Gabe
I wasn't.

01:16:14:13 - 01:16:15:07
Lauren
Concept.

01:16:16:06 - 01:16:27:24
Gabe
Yes, the concept. Yes. I felt like it could have been taken either way. I didn't feel like it seemed like it leaned more one way or the other. But I feel like you guys have.

01:16:27:24 - 01:16:28:27
Lauren
Sherlock, though.

01:16:29:21 - 01:16:36:26
Gabe
Right? Which is why I mean, is like, I feel like if I was inclined to believe, I would assume he meant reincarnation.

01:16:37:25 - 01:16:39:00
Lauren
Or just like timelines.

01:16:39:14 - 01:16:42:02
Gabe
Or timelines or whatever. Yeah, I like the Marvel four.

01:16:42:06 - 01:16:45:24
Lauren
I've been watching Loki, so I'm all about like the timeline dispersion.

01:16:47:03 - 01:16:48:00
Gabe
Yeah, I. Yeah.

01:16:48:15 - 01:17:16:09
Lauren
Anyway, so if you do it right, then Watson will destroy all of the big bad gemstones. And so the summoning will stop. There's a huge tidal wave that is coming. The cult leader jumps off the tower or the lighthouse and dies. And Watson has to drag Sherlock kicking and screaming to safety. I guess Sherlock is just like I want to see it.

01:17:16:09 - 01:17:19:06
Lauren
I have to know what's going on as he.

01:17:19:06 - 01:17:21:03
Gabe
I wish a face would have appeared in the giant.

01:17:21:03 - 01:17:34:06
Lauren
I would have been so good. But I at the same time. No, because the whole point is we don't know what's true. And I feel like if there was a face there, it would have kind of like.

01:17:34:09 - 01:18:00:05
Gabe
I wanted the face. I hated that. It was so ambiguous. I felt like there's too many questions that weren't answered. I didn't like it. I didn't like the ending. I was very unsatisfied. I wanted actually, this is what this is what bothered me. This is this is what I really wanted. Okay. So there is a diff, there's a different give you the game I've played and you give multiple endings.

01:18:01:16 - 01:18:26:00
Gabe
I figures call up because who I think is what I'm thinking of and there's multiple endings based off of how far you descend into the madness. If you descend too far, it is full on cashews. Frickin real. The elders. God comes to life and kills everyone. Okay, maybe not quite that dramatic, but pretty close. That's the if you don't descend far enough, K2 is not real.

01:18:26:29 - 01:18:39:26
Gabe
That's essentially how it is. And so like one of the endings I think there's a couple other and it's like one ending is more canon and then the others are just like, I don't know, other interpretations I suppose.

01:18:39:26 - 01:18:41:19
Lauren
You could say or whatever.

01:18:41:19 - 01:19:06:28
Gabe
That's what I wanted. That's what I think this game should have had. I think there should have been the canon ending of whatever way or if it was the ambiguous, okay, maybe the current ending is the canon, right? We say it's just ambiguous. You don't know. Okay. But then there should have been like, like if I found everything about the Catholic stuff and I like full tell into it, I wanted Kathy Ireland to show up in the wave or like some tentacle or like do something.

01:19:08:07 - 01:19:08:23
Lauren
Or.

01:19:09:13 - 01:19:27:21
Gabe
You don't descend and you stay. Probably true to Sherlock where he's like, No, there's always a logical because we kept me and Wolf kept comparing this to the hounds of Baskerville, right? Where there's like the fumes or whatever that makes it seem supernatural, but it's not. And you almost believe it. Maybe it is supernatural up until the end, like.

01:19:28:01 - 01:19:44:03
Gabe
Well, of course not. This is Sherlock, right? So that was another thing that bothered me. Whereas I feel like it wasn't true to Sherlock. Because if you're true to Sherlock, it would have been. There's always logical explanation. So that kind of bothered me to go ahead.

01:19:44:13 - 01:19:59:14
Lauren
I'm, I'm just kind of laughing because you have similar feelings about Nancy Drew, the show where they bring in the paranormal and you're like, this is a Nancy Drew show. Why is there paranormal?

01:19:59:14 - 01:20:01:19
Gabe
No, I told you, I like that. They did it.

01:20:02:02 - 01:20:03:18
Lauren
I know, but it threw you off at first.

01:20:05:03 - 01:20:16:22
Gabe
Of course it did, because that's not true to Nancy Drew. But I also appreciated the different interpretation of it. However, the games the other games in that series I think had been matured to Sherlock.

01:20:17:05 - 01:20:33:22
Lauren
So when yeah, this is definitely a standalone situation, which is why I think, I think this one was the Kickstarter of like remake this game. Like we want to play more of this game. It was listed. So there was some group that listed Here's 100 games ever.

01:20:35:11 - 01:20:56:08
Gabe
Oh, that's crazy. Here's where I would say it's different from Nancy Drew. Nancy Drew false sent false sense and or supernatural's real. Okay. And I was like, okay, I can get behind if we're going to if we're going to fully go in there and say, That's it, that's what this is. I get that. I respect that. I like that.

01:20:56:08 - 01:21:18:00
Gabe
That's that's fun. That's fresh. It's new. Why not? Because, honestly, I believe in the paranormal. I think there are dark energies out there and real bad. So, like, that's totally fine with me. I my issue is this one is they never full sent it one way or the other. That's why it bothered me because I'm like it just seems false.

01:21:18:00 - 01:21:32:17
Gabe
Like we either say, okay, the supernatural is possible or we stay true to Sherlock and and the sure license like that never happens. There's always a logical explanation, just like Scooby Doo and stuff. I think that's why it bothered me is like they just never fully committed.

01:21:33:26 - 01:21:34:06
Lauren
Yeah.

01:21:36:01 - 01:21:55:09
Gabe
I wanted the commitment. Either give me the tentacles or don't. That's what I was thinking about. You know, when I was when I was thinking in my head on stream how I felt about it and I was thinking about the Nancy Drew stuff. And when we talked about.

01:21:55:09 - 01:21:56:03
Lauren
It, which is.

01:21:56:03 - 01:21:57:05
Gabe
Funny, and I was like.

01:21:58:26 - 01:22:00:00
Lauren
Why? Why are you.

01:22:00:00 - 01:22:02:09
Gabe
Smiling like that? You have something to say. Just say this.

01:22:02:10 - 01:22:35:21
Lauren
Oh, no, no. But so after the big wave, then the game ends with Holmes just lying on a couch. So they both survived. And what's in homes is just like, not doing well. He's just like, Watson, are you okay with, like, living with somebody who's dying, basically, or who's going mad? And Watson's like, Sure, but yeah, that's okay.

01:22:36:11 - 01:22:47:15
Lauren
Holmes is like, Oh, lucky me. And it's just like having a crisis. And this is when Watson is looking at the Black Cat always stuff. And is it.

01:22:47:26 - 01:22:50:03
Gabe
Why would he just rug stimulus.

01:22:50:03 - 01:22:54:21
Lauren
To remove that memory of the trauma from him. Oh my took that.

01:22:54:22 - 01:22:55:03
Gabe
Away.

01:22:55:03 - 01:22:58:17
Lauren
Because it was driving him mad Ken that, that.

01:22:58:28 - 01:23:03:26
Gabe
I thought it was like, like a pain medication or sleeping medication.

01:23:03:26 - 01:23:06:16
Lauren
Something stuff to like remove the try.

01:23:06:16 - 01:23:16:25
Gabe
Right? He was just like he was just like, don't worry about I'll give you that restless night's sleep. Like, I'll just knock you out so hard you sleep. Oh, oh, boy.

01:23:16:25 - 01:23:36:02
Lauren
Yeah. Because he was just like, I'm so going to die. Like, this is going to kill him. So, like, I'm going to take this memory away from him. And that's why he's being so dramatic looking at that. And being like, I don't want to have to do this to my best friend, but I can't.

01:23:36:02 - 01:23:37:12
Gabe
That's why he looks so guilty.

01:23:37:12 - 01:23:43:00
Lauren
Don't watch him do this. I can't watch him go through this.

01:23:43:00 - 01:24:06:14
Gabe
I was thinking like when? When like when they drug someone so much that they're just they're just medicated. Like, you know what I'm like? That's just what they are. That's what I thought he was doing to Holmes, and I thought that's why he felt so sad and guilty. And I was like, Dude, I would feel really sad and guilty doing that to someone do I don't think I would do it to someone, but you know what I mean?

01:24:06:14 - 01:24:13:14
Gabe
But that's honestly, they're both equally bad, actually. I feel like they're very equal. I'm not sure one's worse than the other, because both of them.

01:24:13:16 - 01:24:15:04
Lauren
If your intention is the same.

01:24:15:04 - 01:24:38:13
Gabe
Doped up and medicate yeah. Oof that makes, that still makes the ending even more unsatisfactory to me though because if he's descending into this madness, is it because K2 is real or is it because of something happened? Because they kept referencing it started with the C, I don't remember what it's called, but they they kept referencing that something like something like this has happened before.

01:24:38:13 - 01:24:42:08
Lauren
Like his sibling.

01:24:42:08 - 01:24:49:24
Gabe
They mentioned a sibling, but it was something else. It's it was a it was like a place or a person or something. It started at the C and.

01:24:49:24 - 01:24:51:04
Lauren
That mean in.

01:24:53:15 - 01:24:54:25
Gabe
A previous game, I don't know their.

01:24:54:26 - 01:25:07:06
Lauren
Previous game, but it might have been like also, you know, an asylum where his mom was or something like that because it had that level of trauma associated with that.

01:25:07:06 - 01:25:10:23
Gabe
So then there's another thing. Is he going crazy because of his mom's genetics?

01:25:10:23 - 01:25:11:12
Lauren
I don't know.

01:25:11:23 - 01:25:34:24
Gabe
I don't like it. You know, if they aren't. Okay, here's my Oliver. Amanda, if They make the next game and the answer these questions in the next game. I'll amend my review for the ending of this game. If we don't get those answers, it's shite. It's a cracker shite crock of shit. That's all I'm saying. They're too thirsty to commit to one way or the other.

01:25:34:24 - 01:25:39:26
Lauren
Well, is it was he or is it allowing okay.

01:25:39:28 - 01:25:40:29
Gabe
People who think.

01:25:40:29 - 01:25:42:02
Lauren
Take what they people.

01:25:42:02 - 01:25:57:04
Gabe
Who think that's artistic hot cake. I hate you. I think you're too I think you're two words to commit to one way or the other. And so your copout is I'll let the reader finish the story.

01:25:57:04 - 01:26:01:05
Lauren
Okay. I did want to since we're talking about the developers.

01:26:01:05 - 01:26:03:00
Gabe
I'm sorry, that's a hot topic.

01:26:03:14 - 01:26:27:29
Lauren
This is from a company called Frog Wires. And they basically do all of the Sherlock Holmes games, so they've got quite the whole series. We did want to highlight that they are Ukranian and Irish developers, so they have a little blurb at the beginning of the game just saying, hey, you know, we've got a lot of Ukrainian employees and a lot of Ukrainian people who worked on this game.

01:26:28:02 - 01:26:36:13
Lauren
So, you know, all this love to the Ukrainian people. So I just wanted to highlight that piece.

01:26:36:13 - 01:26:45:29
Gabe
We should be shown. Wait, you but you have to say how you felt about the game. You never said how you felt about the game in the ending. You just let me talk.

01:26:45:29 - 01:27:12:01
Lauren
I really enjoyed the game. I know that there weren't like, you know, like Nancy Drew style puzzles. I liked that there was a lot of just kind of logic that you had to kind of just do detective work instead of puzzle solving, if that makes sense. You to put the pieces of like what happened versus Nancy Drew games, which you don't really deduce what happened.

01:27:13:12 - 01:27:23:01
Gabe
You know, as I say this, it was more motivate motivation based in the Sherlock Holmes, like figuring out motivations and reason. Yeah, I agree with you.

01:27:23:03 - 01:27:30:19
Lauren
Yeah. Reasoning versus puzzling. So I really enjoyed that.

01:27:30:19 - 01:27:41:06
Gabe
I think I expected more puzzles and I wish I didn't have that expectation going in. I don't know why I thought there were going to be actual puzzles, except that it's I says it's a puzzle game. And I was like, Well.

01:27:41:06 - 01:27:42:09
Lauren
This isn't a puzzle game.

01:27:42:26 - 01:27:46:03
Gabe
Yeah, the go ahead.

01:27:46:03 - 01:28:11:18
Lauren
The part that I didn't love about the game and I don't know, that's just like because I just wasn't paying attention to it because there were a lot of things where you had to like have the right clue pinned in order to try to converse with people about it, or you had to click into something and then free to research it.

01:28:11:18 - 01:28:32:03
Lauren
And so I would always forget to like take the clue and actually research it in order to launch into other things. So there the clue portal where you had to interact with the clues in order to interact with the outside world. I would it would take me way too long to realize I had to go in there and do that.

01:28:32:19 - 01:28:35:15
Lauren
And so I would I shouldn't do it. So I struggle to tell her that.

01:28:37:01 - 01:28:45:16
Gabe
I struggle with that in like the first couple of chapters. And then I realized what it was trying to get me to do. And then I was like, Oh, okay, I understand.

01:28:46:14 - 01:28:46:25
Lauren
And that.

01:28:47:02 - 01:29:01:00
Gabe
And it would tell you if you should do it, because I had the pen at the top. I had the pen at the top. That meant you're supposed to like do whatever and whatever. And I was like, so every now and then I was like, Okay, I guess I'll just frickin look at my evidence if it's got this, this and this, but then something.

01:29:01:01 - 01:29:16:24
Gabe
And then I feel like I started to kind internally, know like what maybe I should be pinning based off of how it had gone previously. But I, I could see where that would be really confused. I don't know. I don't feel like there was a good enough tutorial or explanation for it.

01:29:16:29 - 01:29:17:21
Lauren
I got to.

01:29:17:21 - 01:29:19:02
Gabe
Figure it out like you just had to.

01:29:19:02 - 01:29:53:21
Lauren
Figure out. Really stuck in the house after I had put all of the pieces together. Because there's one piece of evidence that says, Hey, there's a reference to a a lock in the study. And I would go up there and I could not see anything. And it wasn't until I looked through the evidence and saw something that wanted to be pinned and I pinned it that then when I went into the study, then all of a sudden I could look at the wall calling to me and I could look at that.

01:29:53:21 - 01:30:13:06
Lauren
And then because I had already figured out a raccoon stole the thing, a raccoon did this, this. So I had figured out all of the pieces that I had to be pinning the right thing in order for the game to say, Great, we understand that you have to do this and put these things together and now you can go and do this.

01:30:13:06 - 01:30:25:26
Lauren
So like I would get stuck on things like that just because I didn't realize the game or what the game needed to see in order to let me progress.

01:30:27:06 - 01:30:33:28
Gabe
Yeah, I forgot about that. Yeah, because you didn't need to just pin it to talk to people. You had to pin it to properly investigate, turn.

01:30:34:03 - 01:30:35:14
Lauren
Turn your concentration off.

01:30:35:14 - 01:30:36:01
Gabe
It's just kind.

01:30:36:01 - 01:30:42:18
Lauren
Of it wouldn't tell you there was a concentration piece unless you were pinning the right thing. It's like, what's going on?

01:30:43:06 - 01:30:44:24
Gabe
Okay, okay.

01:30:45:09 - 01:31:02:14
Lauren
Okay. Now, let's say that was my kind of only gripe with the game. That's fair. That's fair. But that's more on me not paying attention. So I take full responsibility for that.

01:31:02:14 - 01:31:07:07
Gabe
I, I like the game.

01:31:07:18 - 01:31:20:01
Lauren
I like the game. I thought the graphics were really good. The vibes were very spooky, scary, the storylines very tragic and upsetting.

01:31:20:01 - 01:31:28:21
Gabe
I wish it was longer for how much it was worth. Mm hmm. I don't know. I don't know if I'm fully convinced it was worth.

01:31:29:28 - 01:31:31:28
Lauren
How much it was. Well, I unlocked.

01:31:31:28 - 01:31:38:19
Gabe
A bunch because base price was $40, you know, and, like, bonus content. Yeah.

01:31:38:21 - 01:31:44:00
Lauren
Like, every once in a while, I would be like, Oh, you just unlocked bonus content. So I have to, like, go and find out what that means.

01:31:45:18 - 01:31:49:13
Gabe
What? That the outfits, you realize you could change what you're wearing, right? Uh huh.

01:31:49:19 - 01:31:59:17
Lauren
Yeah. There was a silver vest that like was very low cut and showed a lot of chest. And I was like, oh.

01:31:59:17 - 01:32:00:11
Gabe
Yes, yes.

01:32:00:11 - 01:32:02:28
Lauren
You will be in that good, sir. Thank you.

01:32:04:05 - 01:32:08:00
Gabe
Yes. Yes I think that's what that was.

01:32:08:06 - 01:32:09:16
Lauren
It was the outfit.

01:32:09:24 - 01:32:11:18
Gabe
Maybe I'm wrong, but I know.

01:32:11:18 - 01:32:12:02
Lauren
You're probably.

01:32:12:02 - 01:32:18:09
Gabe
Don't remember seeing a new thing on the main menu.

01:32:18:09 - 01:32:18:22
Lauren
So.

01:32:20:02 - 01:32:21:11
Gabe
I. Yeah.

01:32:21:23 - 01:32:55:11
Lauren
I don't know. All right, it was good. So, our female developer Spotlight for this week is Joyce Lyons Becker. And she considers herself the first indie developer because she was a contractor. Many people consider her the first known commercial female game developer, which is a title or a some. Yeah, it's a title she doesn't necessarily want to claim.

01:32:56:26 - 01:33:29:22
Lauren
I understand that. But at the same time, like own it, I guess. She was born in 1958 in New Jersey and. Her father, Joseph Weiss Becker, was an engineer at Radio Corporation of America. So the RCA was founded in 1919. It was a leader in electronics, as well as just communications in general in the U.S. and it was a really, really, really big for about 50 years.

01:33:30:14 - 01:34:05:12
Lauren
And they worked a lot on radio receivers. They created the first nationwide American radio network and they were super involved in TV as well as the development of color television specifically. So radio and TV, they really were rock and roll with that for three decades or so. And then in the sixties, they moved into computers and PCs. And so Joseph Weiss Becker was really on the front lines of that and was building his own computers at times when no one was doing that.

01:34:05:28 - 01:34:15:01
Lauren
And he was the architect of an eight that microprocessor, which then he was developing names for. And so he was just a pioneer.

01:34:15:14 - 01:34:28:09
Gabe
I just want to say my grandpa was that, too. He built their first computer that they ever had, and they're the first TV and not like, just like, built like order. Like like full on built.

01:34:28:23 - 01:34:29:12
Lauren
That's so.

01:34:29:12 - 01:34:47:23
Gabe
Cool. And I wasn't that. I was like, I wish I was this hand is grandpa Richard may you rest in peace but it makes me laugh because my dad is very much not a handyman and like, his dad was, like, full on and he worked. He worked for NASA, too, for a while.

01:34:47:24 - 01:34:50:23
Lauren
Hmm. But your dad is in tech anyways, so.

01:34:51:20 - 01:35:01:03
Gabe
Yeah, yeah, yeah. My dad is in tech, but like. Like my grandpa was like. Like a handyman. Like, he. I mean, my grandpa worked for Nice and not my dad.

01:35:01:11 - 01:35:02:01
Lauren
But he.

01:35:03:07 - 01:35:23:03
Gabe
You know, could build things and just was very like he took care, like he wouldn't need to call a plumber or do that kind of stuff, you know what I mean? My dad can't do any of those things. Bless him if we have to do that kind of stuff in the house, I'm the one who does it and he's kind of just there watching it out with me and like holding the flashlight.

01:35:23:14 - 01:35:28:13
Lauren
Like, okay, he's a project man, but I'm sure he is.

01:35:28:13 - 01:35:48:08
Gabe
That's something that, like, whenever I think about it, I just am like, that's, that's so crazy. So he was smart enough to do that, you know, because, like, when we build pieces today, we order ten parts and like, screw them together today, but like he would like made, you know, all the different parts and stuff.

01:35:48:20 - 01:35:50:07
Lauren
Like welded them. Yeah.

01:35:50:27 - 01:35:51:21
Gabe
Yeah, yeah.

01:35:51:27 - 01:36:12:04
Lauren
It's exactly very similar to that. Yeah. So he basically was just pushing the RCA, trying to be like, Hey, let's do this and let's do that. And the RCA was kind of like allowing him to do of it and just kind of like pushing back on things which would then send him back to his workshop where then he would develop something else.

01:36:12:04 - 01:36:34:07
Lauren
And so he was just really running this for RCA at and I think I just wanted to highlight that. He also devised stage illusions for local magicians. So like he just wanted to create things. He's just a creator, which I love for him. But yes, he had to.

01:36:34:08 - 01:36:35:16
Gabe
Have a say. I love that for.

01:36:35:21 - 01:37:03:13
Lauren
Two daughters and one of them, Joy, is really took to computing. And so he would be building all these computers and she would be practicing programing on them. And and when a quote from her is when she was talking about programing and she was talking about she was learning about programing, she was like, this is really cool puzzles that puzzle nature.

01:37:03:13 - 01:37:08:16
Lauren
It either gets you or it doesn't. And it got joy status.

01:37:08:16 - 01:37:16:00
Gabe
And my dad feels sorry. I think that's how my dad feels about it. Team programing. I don't get it. I just hate it.

01:37:16:00 - 01:37:29:12
Lauren
I hate programing so much. You have to be in the right mindset or have to be the right person. Where just like, oh, logically, I can kind of see the language and put all of these pieces, but you just you have to have it in your brain.

You have to have the brain. You do, you really do. Am I perfect? I think I've talked about the programing class I had to take and my professor talked about that. He's also worked for.

01:37:38:15 - 01:37:39:01
Lauren
NASA.

01:37:39:18 - 01:37:58:21
Gabe
And he was like, You either get it or you don't, and it's not a fault of you. You just either have the brain for it. You don't. And I definitely I don't like I have to build a physically see it, touch it, look it but like and that's why I'm like.

01:37:58:21 - 01:37:59:18
Lauren
You like tantrums.

01:37:59:18 - 01:38:12:06
Gabe
Like that. This is why I yeah I suppose as yeah, I suppose you could say that, but I was like, Dad, this is why we're good team. I'm, I do it. You think it is like.

01:38:12:19 - 01:38:18:14
Lauren
Oh yeah, that visualization aspect. Yeah.

01:38:19:24 - 01:38:31:27
Gabe
I can visualize certain things, but it's still like when I can't even see the outcome because the thing with programing is like you never see an actual physical outcome. I mean, you see the lines of code, but I don't feel like I don't know. Anyways.

01:38:32:21 - 01:39:05:05
Lauren
That's not a direct line. Sorry. Yeah, yes. Yes. So Joyce graduated from high school in 1976 when she 18 and her dad asked if she wanted to contract for the company he worked for and program games for them. Yes, they were trying to they had like created a console and he was already making games for it, but he knew that she was really enjoying doing game like programing and playing.

01:39:05:05 - 01:39:50:25
Lauren
So he was getting her involved. So truly kudos to her dad who was just like, Hey, my kid wants to do this and come on and, this was in the seventies. This is happening. So she was she developed a couple games that she didn't get paid for. She was just kind of creating them called snake race and then one called Jackpot, which were just included in like the computer manual, just type in programs, practicing things and then in August of 1976, her first commercial game that she actually would get paid for was called TV's Schoolhouse One.

01:39:50:25 - 01:40:14:29
Lauren
And her dad loved education. And so he was just like, hey, make this kind of quiz game a little kind of like classroom jeopardy in a way where it was kind of like, oh, you know, here are some educational questions and then you have to answer it and whatever. And she was paid $250 for that game, which was about $1,330 in today's money.

01:40:15:22 - 01:40:43:16
Lauren
So that was the first game that she got paid for and then she developed a couple other games Speedway and tag, which were really kind of basic games where they were Speedway, I think they both were just games that you would kind of race around and they were on a cart. It was a combo cartridge games, so neither of them was on their own cartridge.

01:40:43:16 - 01:41:18:07
Lauren
They were both sitting on there together. And so she did that for RCA as well. And then there is a build it yourself PC that her dad created called the Cosmic VIP, and so she programed a few games for that as. Slide some fun and sequence shoot for that and then and that was in 1977 so she was and 19 when she developed these, you know, pretty basic games for very basic computers.

01:41:19:03 - 01:41:57:03
Lauren
And then she graduated or then she went off to college. And that's all that she did. She kind of spent a summer to creating some games for this company. Her dad worked for her and then majored in computer engineering as well as actuarial science, and spent 20 years doing as an actuary and then got some more advanced degrees 20 years later in electrical engineering and computer science, and then spent the rest of her career working as a radar signal processing engineer.

01:41:57:03 - 01:42:25:29
Lauren
And she had decided that, quote, You look around and you say, okay, do I really want to live at home and spend every night duplicating cassettes and going down to the post office and making photocopies of the instruction manual and mailing them off to people? That was the computer game industry at the time. So that's why she decided, you know, I enjoy doing this, but I am going to go and do like quote unquote a real instead.

01:42:27:25 - 01:42:58:10
Lauren
But there was an interview at Fast Company because people really started talking about her and. I guess 2011 is really when people start going, Oh, wait, hold on. She might be the first female developer. Commercial developer. And so according to Fast Company, she has become interested in game development. Again, I don't know if that's just because like people have been talking to her and spending time with her and being like, Hey, tell us about your experiences.

01:42:58:17 - 01:43:21:19
Lauren
But she said she's trying to gear up to do something really interesting. I am computer assisted because she wants to do story based cooperative games, so that was a fairly recent quote from her. So we might see some word choice games coming down the line at some point. It should be a really cool.

01:43:21:19 - 01:43:22:22
Gabe
Should be really exciting.

01:43:22:26 - 01:43:28:25
Lauren
Yeah yeah. Anyway good for her.

01:43:28:25 - 01:43:35:03
Gabe
Always sounds super sarcastic when I say that for these female developers, but I'd like to say I genuinely feel that what I say.

01:43:36:01 - 01:44:02:01
